    Default The TOW RIG thread

Since many of us have trucks to haul our eurotrash around with, I think its time to start a show thread! Ive had several tow rigs over the past few years.

Started out with this: 1996 F150 5.0 Great truck, still use it for hauling wood around the farm.

I picked up this 1999 Chevy 1500 last year. Tows pretty good for a 1/2 ton.

I got this Ram 2500 on a whim, the heavier springs and axles where great for towing, but the 360 V8 lacked the torque I desired. So I traded it.

FOR THIS! 1992 Ford F350 7.3 IDI non-turbo diesel. Slow and steady is the name of the game. It should clean up nice though, and I plan on keeping this one. haha

    Whats everyone else running?

    20mpg w/o trailer, 16mpg w/trailer, 11mpg w/trailer, car, rack of tires, and a tool box

I like it. Comfy as hell for those long trips.

I just pull stuff with my car.

But I am finding more and more that I could really use a pickup truck or a utility trailer. There have been several times in the past year where I have had to rely on friends with trucks to help me haul things.

    First real tow rig:
1994 Chevy K3500 dually, with a Cummins 12-valve swapped in:

Sold the daully and bought this from southern California:
    2003 Chevy Suburban LT Quadrasteer
3/4 ton, with a tow package and air bags in the rear.

Had the underside and rockers sprayed with bedliner:

Plan is to continue to watch for a 2006-2007 duramax to swap into the suburban to better the towing ability of it.

Where did you have the bedliner done?
I need to do the same on my van before winter

I've had a handful of different trucks over the years that I have used to pull my 20 ft mow trailer on a daily basis, but most recently I purchased a 2015 Ford F250 extended cab with the 6.2l gas, rubber floors, cloth seats, all the sync goodies with bluetooth and power everything. I really wanted to find one with the 6.7l powerstroke, but instead I bought this truck with 15,000 miles for the same same price I paid for my 2005 F350 with the 5.4l gas and no options when bought new. Not a bad deal. I'll have to get a picture of the set up. Anybody else have any experience with the 6.2l?

In the next year or so I'll be on the hunt for an early 2000's Ford Excursion with the 7.3l powerstroke, waiting to find the "right" one.

It's super far out of the way... I know Josh at Josh's Autobody in Browerville, MN, so I bring pretty much all my body work there...

If I remember correctly, I spent about $1500 or a little more to get the entire underside and rockers sprayed. It was something like that, can't remember.

Nice trailer! Ive been looking into the Outback 210RS. Hopefully it will happen soon. Need to upgrade the pop-up since adding a tiny human to our family....

This is my tow rig for the time being. Its not a diesel, or anything special, but it works for what i need it to. It pulls the Jeep pretty well, and pulls the skidloader when i need it to.

Started with a 2003 Envoy XL with the 5.3 Vortec - great truck and I actually miss it. Was a really nice dailer driver!

Then we moved to a 2006 F350. Which can be seen in this thread.
