    Default VW cheating on emissions?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/19/bu...ware.html?_r=0

I may ignore this recall, I can't imagine it will benefit the performance of the vehicle. This is pretty outrageous if it really is the case though.

LOL, I liked the TDI club discussion because they forced people to keep politics out of the discussion, and banned people that brought it up.

Becuase I'm of the exact opposite position, I don't want some climate denier being elected to run the EPA. That being said, I think the EPAs hatred of diesel is a bit ridiculous. They are held to higher standard than gas cars.

As I read further into this it seems like it MAY be a bigger deal to vehicle without urea injection, and I've decided I want to hear a response from VW, see what the fix is, and see what class action suits might come up.

Kris never said he wanted a climate denier running the EPA either.

    Correct. I didn't.

Looks like the fine could be 18 billion dollars? Wow. Wonder what their profit is a year. If I were vw I would say fuck off.

anyone that takes their car in for the recall is a boot licker.

Sorry Kris, you did not say that, but I still don't think it should be an elected position for that reason.

Plenty of people will be required to have the recall done in states with emissions. Some people have already gotten letter stating they will need to have this done for their registration to be renewed. I for one have free services due to me, so I am tempted to bring the car in but will wait and see what is happening when the recall is done. This seems to be a bigger deal for the older cars without urea injection. Mine has urea injection so I may just see an increase in DEF consumption

I'm also wait to see VW's response. They have not admitted any wrong doing yet, they only have the EPA claiming VW admitted wrong doing. And I have a hard time believing the fine will be $18 billion. GM killed 200 people and the fine was $1 billion

Really? The EPA thinks that vw installed software that could detect when it was being emission tested? Really?

sure it would be as easy as putting a few lines of code in to say "when connected to something that draws data from OBDII, LIE. or install two sets of parameters one that outputs and runs the car. IDK, I'm getting ready to rip out all the emission garbage out of both our VW's soon so I don't really care.

Yeah, OK. I'll remember that as I drive by all these construction sites with large equipment just spewing black smoke.

its not about the environment, its about the economy. It's an entire ideology against consumption and the American way of life.

I have two cars that fall into this category, both outside manufacturer warranty. There isn't a whole lot in minnesota that they could do to obligate me to have them "repaired" is there?

An official recall hasn't been issued yet, so there is no repair at this time.

Some states supposedly will require owners to prove the cheat has been turned off for their registration to be renewed, but that is in states that require emissions testing.

At this time, I wouldn't worry abou it.

Maybe this will lead to TDI prices decreasing and then I can snatch one up for pennies!
