    Default My barn find 79

I picked this 79 rabbit the other day. Spent half the day just pulling it out. Last time it was on the road was 1987 so I've got a lot to sort out before I turn the key.

    And a quick wash...

That looks awesome! The panel on the back hatch is kinda neat too.

The interior is going to get tossed for the most part due to unwanted house guests. Mouse piss n poo. Smells ungodly. Carpet is junk...they ate that up, seats...I'm afraid to sit on them. I'll find more comfortable replacements, headliner looks ok apart from a quarter sized mouse door but that just means there's an after party underneath it....it's getting tossed.

Basically I'm going to rip it all out and then decide what to do from there, depending on what I find. I'll assess the wire situation and make sure all is good, take out the HVAC components and clean it all out. Everything is going to get sterilized.

If I remember right those are somewhat rare and can be worth a decent chunk of cash. it's a Heckblende.

Car looks great! I wish I had a barn to find old VWs in. What does it say for millage?

Wow that's a good find! The paint still looks pretty good. Seems like you have your work cut out for you though. I think everyone wants to get their own barn find at some point in their life. Whether it's a VW or a something else.

    Updates:

For those that wanted to know...the car has 152k on it.

Since getting it home I've done a few things.

Gave it a better bath. Cleaned up pretty decent. Trim is on the way.

    Interior shots before the gutting

    Started gutting in the back

Where it's at now. The dash and shelf were pulled along with blower motor and heater core.

    Dash and shelf cleaned up.

The engine bay as it sits now. The picture is a little blurry..aah well. I spent some time cleaning it up the bay. Radiator was pulled.

I'm replacing the radiator, heater core, and blower motor (along with a lot of other little things). Not worth throwing the old stuff back in and risking it.

This project has taken on a mind of its own. I initially planned to just get the thing running since picking it up but roadblocks led me to digging deeper into other things. Waiting on parts and needing to order parts.

The old seats are going to be retired. I have a different set I will be reupholstering to my liking.

    That's all for now.
