You're welcome to start contributing. I've posted a number of videos that were of fast/big power diesels, the black smoke was not high school kids deleting emissions equipment, they were purpose-built race cars/trucks.

I guess it would be different if people were posting videos in here with comments like "watch this guy roll coal" - but I don't see that here.

My car is averaging 48 mpg in the summer months. Filled up yesterday at just under 700 miles on the trip meter....

39mpg average. 33mpg while towing a jetta. This is my low mileage ride - last tank in my 02 Jetta was 55mpg.

Why is the Ranger so far off the Jetta's MPG number? Gearing? Aero? Is the weight that much different?

    1) Aero. 2) Aero 3) I tend to use it like a truck, hauling towing thigs etc 4) It's also my modding outlet so I don't tend to drive it as conservatively as I do my jetta.

I've actually changed the gearing so it is much lower than my jetta. 70mph = 2000rpm. Weight is about the same.

Someday I'll get to doing some aero mods and lower it slightly. I've seen a few extreme Eco modders get 40mpg on a gasser ranger. I think if I were to do a few minor tweaks I could easily obtain 45mpg.

    Mileage.

With the SportWagen fully laden (rocketbox full or stuff, boot full of stuff, bikes on back), full tank of diesel, 4 people for a weekend of fun at Big Stone Lake we got 36mpg on the way out. That was with a 25-40mph headwind. The way back saw the car achieve 49mpg with a tail/side wind.

TDi is a good way to not drive like a moron with kiddos in the car. Seems SOOOOO logical to us: drive slowly with the kiddos and take your time/see the sights. Have fun in the other car when not with kiddos.

Very nice... Just put a new set of glow plugs in the caddy. Looking for a winter heated but stuck driving it for the moment.
