I got that without the chip and a load of wood in it too.

And i used to have a 5.0L F150 as well. Only one tank worked so i could get 150-170 miles out of 14 gallons. Shit sucked.

I love diesel. I drove my truck pretty hard, cuz it's fast. Even with leaking injectors and a 2500HD, I still pulled 18mpg easy.

There is one HUGE factor in why they will not bring small, striped down versions of the Ranger/Colorado/D100, they would ruin the full size truck sales. You cant sell a 30mpg, 300ftlb $25K Ranger when you NEED to sell a 14mpg, 330ftlb $40K F150.

how much has that to do with Aero, and weight? look how high the rangers and everything sat. If they engineered a unibody ranger, with a beefed up suspension/bed area- how much weight could they save? how much closer to the ground could you be?

Look at the diffence in mpg between the Caddy (early 80s tech), and the most current ranger/s10/dakota.

Stu- If someone handed you 20k, could you get 80mpg out of a caddy?

That wasnt what I was saying at all. The V6 Ranger's EPS numbers were like 16/20 and the V6 F150 was 16/19 but with how the F150 was scaled in CAFE it didnt bring the Fleet average down as much as the smaller footprint, lighter and less powerful Ranger. The Ranger was also priced on the heavy end of absurd, a "4door" 4x4 V6 Northland Ranger was $30K, where you could buy a decent larger F150 for the same money. Now add in a Diesel option, $4-6K and you have seriously priced yourself out of the market. It didnt make sense for Ford to keep the Ranger around especially with the Eco-Boost F150 coming down the pipeline.

I would love to see a Ranger 2.5D in my driveway, I just might have to make it myself...

I'm actually kinda glad they went with a smaller displacement motor instead of the 5.0L v8 we (Cummins) were developing for Chrylser. The thing was a behemoth!

I got tired of waiting for the big three to bring something here so I decided to build one myself
