    Default tranny making noise

Hey, Ive noticed lately when I shift into gears mainly on a cold start so leaving school, I noticed a high pitched noise when I shift or sometime when Im just driving. I dont know exactly what this would be, for transmission wise on my car, the carfax says the transmission was overhauled at 70k. I dont know exactly was overhauled. Any ideas on what this could be? maybe just the cold weather?

Pillowcase and Duct-Tape. That will quiet it right down.

In all honesty, I would imagine it's gear whine. All cars have it to some extent.

    Is your car a manual?

There's nothing more annoying than a whining tranny.

    So it's a manual?

What about the fluid level in the transmission?

What do you mean, "in a while?"

Like you have before, and forgot about it? Or it's just not been done by you or the previous owner?

Chlorform. A haven't met a tranny that didn't like the smell of chloroform, and it will quite them right down.

Or, check the fluid level and see what's up.

Now this is going to sound pathetic, but heck basically all my posts on here are. Where exactly do I check the fluid level?

You know how to use google, correct?

I got this in the first result. I think it should help.

You know you can type in: "site:vwvortex.com mk3 transmission fluid" (or whatever other site you want after "Site:") and it will limit your results to that site. Very helpful and typically works better then using a forum search function. Oh, and don't use the quote marks when you actually type it into google...that will do something else entirely.

Teach a man to fish, and he will shut trannys up all day.
