600 miles on my first tank. Not too shabby.

You are absolutely right, it is too bad and there is no reason for it. However, it doesn't completely remove the mileage advantage the diesel offers. TDI is still coming out ahead.

Which right now a TDI only saving a few bucks per tank at best but if diesel comes back down closer to gas prices, then it will be worth it.

From my calculations, I'm still ahead. Manual trans Sportwagens with the 2.5L get mid 20's for mixed driving mpg. I didn't even try hard and I cleared over 40mpg. With some effort, 700 miles on a tank isn't out of the question.

You are ahead. My worst tank (has happened twice in 80K+ miles) was 39.5 mpg. At $4.39/gallon that equals $0.1126/mile. A 2.5L gasser getting 25 mpg @ $3.39/gallon equals $0.1356/mile.

The two times my mileage was that low was once in the winter and once while tuning my car (aka 20-30 full throttle runs on that tank)

Congrats on the purchase, the fact of being able to drive 700+miles on a tank is my favorite benefit of the Diesel.

If I can get my 1.6TD running right, I would love this benefit. Right now I am only getting around 30mpg so diesel costs are kicking my ass.

I think you did over 100 WOT pulls while tuning Paul. Thats what happens when you're having fun

Winter diesel prices will always be higher than gas prices. There was a few days this summer where diesel was cheaper than regular unleaded, however it hasn't happened very frequently lately. Diesel has usually been around the price of premium.

I was looking at some prices posted for diesel in other states, seems like we are getting the shaft on price. Even in clean-air california diesel is cheaper than RUG. I know its a winter price thing but its been this way for a really long time.

I may trade in my TDI on a CR-Z

    No, I probably wont.

Does my 2010 Jetta have this? Not sure I've read about it before.

Yes, 2007 is the first year that it was required - thats why we have no TDI's in 2007 and 2008 except for the Touareg, which got the DPF. Take a look under your hood, find the turbo and to the left, that big heat shield with the sensors - thats your DPF.

Adblue isn't used in most TDI's, only Passat and bigger.
