    Default wtb 2.0 16v head

So I got to doin the head gasket the other day and I brought the head in to have it cleaned up and resurfaced. Turns out a few of my intake valves are not seating correctly. Shop said that they could only get a vacuum of 10psi on one of them and it should be 20-25psi. So they are recommending a rebuild, which will potentially cost me $50 for the resurface, $180 for the rebuild and then on top of that $10 for any valve guides that it would need. So the that is potentially $390 for a rebuild with all new guides, plus the price of seals.
So now I am looking for something one of you might have lying around that has had a recent rebuild. I don't want to deal with anything that has high miles with never being rebuilt. So if you have anything let me know.
    Thanks

Jason, do you really have a rebuilt? Talked to the shop and they said these heads only really need new exhaust guides so that brings the price down to $310 which I think is more in line with what I am willing to pay. So if anyone can do better than that let me know.

The 1.8 16v head is better flow-wise, so if you're starting anew, you may want to look for one of those There are a couple things you have to swtich around to use the 1.8 head on the 2.0, you'd have to look it up on the 'tex. Good luck

btw, the price of that rebuild seems kinda cheap, which could be good or bad. Have you worked with these guys before? My rebuild with pretty much the same parts you are replacing cost me just over $600 incl full disassembly and re-assembly. Mine did include new lifters as well I guess..

from what I have read, 1.8 heads are better at the higher rpms because of bigger exhaust valves. the 2.0's have bigger intake valves which I guess gives the engine better torque at lower rpms. I would consider the 1.8 if anyone has a good one but I would rather not lose my low end power in exchange for high end power. I tend to never drive over 4k anyways.

no, but I'll send it over to Midwest, and sell it to you for $309.
Yes it is the other way around, the 2.0 heads have more "meat" in the so they're the ones for the p&p treatment. 1.8s flow better out of the box because of runner design.
And yes, the shop is very reputable, and that price IS very in-expensive. Unfortunately, northern MN is the home of :ahem: "thrifty" european vehicle owners.

thrifty is right, why do you think I am into these things in the first place? Cheap and easy to fix....

Anyway, I brought a second 2.0 head down this morning that I had in the shed to see if that one was any better, so if not I think I will have them go ahead with the rebuild. There is a guy there named Jeff that has been awsome. I certainly don't mind giving him my buisiness.

So someone clear up this "difference in 1.8 and 2.0 heads" heads for me. I could've swore that I had it right the first time.

and yeah, 1.8 is better in the upper end, 2.0 is better down low if you stick w/ the stock cams and manifold

    stock 2.0 16v + 4k tranny = torque monster

Isn't that what I said earlier? And I know I am right on the valve sizes. I just looked at them earlier today and sure enough the intakes are bigger than the exhaust.
