I put up with the same 5th gear in my jetta for a while, and only recently swapped it because I drive to duluth and back on a somewhat regular basis with that car. even then, I only swapped it because I got a gearbox for free with a taller 5th. I wouldn't have even bothered if I didn't have the stuff around.

for a non-daily, I don't care. it's not *that* buzzy.

ya, on my long trips at 4k~ rpm the whole time, the 16v burns oil, however, the not downshifting to pass/slow down is pretty nice

need to clean the alt bracket up more, clean the starter/paint it, maybe clean the trans and head more. I've got another valve cover for it.

I almost went to town on it tonight and put the rest of the mounts in, rebuilt the carb, put the rad and hoses in, etc. but, I need to sleep and then I'll be out of town until thursday.

friday should be a fun day.

you should also cut a hole in the firewall, like so:

'modified' the free header to mate up with the techtonics exhaust and hit it with some cheap header paint that will definitely burn off.
