Default Everyones wet dream come true

Im personally bored with the golf and wouldnt mind seeing more choices.....

Volkswagen is considering offering its Polo hatchback in the United States, CEO Martin Winterkorn said in an interview this week at the Detroit auto show. When he meets with over 600 U.S. dealers at a major gathering later this month, Winterkorn says he'll ask one simple question — "Do you need the Polo?"

The Polo is smaller than the Rabbit hatchback, and is even offered in GTI guise, which could be popular in the United States. Although cars this small have long been shunned by the U.S. market, concerns over fuel economy have created a renewed interest in such vehicles.
Winterkorn said during the interview with Germany's Handelsblatt newspaper VW is also considering bringing the production version of the rear-engine space up concept car to America.

I wouldn't mind seeing them here even though I see them everywhere in China.

    My grandparents like it too

Meh. Everyone says they want one, but when they get here they'll all say "hmm, I like it, but I could get a Rabbit for just a little more and have more space, hp, tq, etc"...

    I could go on..

I'd love a polo. In about 10 years if they were here, then they'd be cheap. Polo would be one of my many cars.

I forgot about the tdi. Freaking awesome. It'd never happen, though. Damn hicks all say, "well, that thur diesel is more expensive than gas." Freakin idiots. Don't realize that it all shakes out and ends up being cheaper to drive anyway, engine lasts longer, mega torquey, etc, etc, etc.

The problem is, they would/will cannibalize the Rabbit/Golf.

Base Rabbit, no options is $15k

You would need a base Polo to come in around $12k

Because heres what happens, you go in, say I want a Polo, but I also want this and this and TDI and "oh wow" now it's ~$20k+

Now if they could give it TDI and put it $14-17 they would have a winner.

aren't 'hicks' the ones buying the crazy diesels in huge trucks that don't get any better mileage, only more torque than the gassers? The stigma of diesels is soley on the shoulders of the yuppies who remember and equate all modern diesel passenger cars to those of the late 70's and early 80's. You need to be blaming your parents, not the 'hicks.'

Everyone talks about how cheap the Rabbit is with a base price of $14k. My wife and I went to a couple dealerships looking at these and nobody had one with a price tag under $17k - $18k. Thats not very affordable in my mind, but I do realize that the Rabbit is a much high quality vehicle than some of the cars that are actually $13k - $14k.

I would love to see a slightly more affordable VW in the US. I believe if the Polo comes over here we will be looking into buying one.

    Not true.

    My 97 2500 4x4 ram with a cummins gets 18-21 mpg. My dads 95 2500 4x4 ram with a 5.9 gas gets 10-14 mpg.

Essentially the same truck with the same size engine (both 5.9l) and a large difference in mpg's. His truck is an auto so I guess you could give it a 1-3 mpg dissadvantage but that still puts them about 5mpg's appart.

No, the hicks tell me I'm a moron for buying a diesel car, tell me gas is so much better and cheaper. Shows how much they know.
