Default Some new thread for the caddy.

As some of you know I have this caddy project that's been on going for about a year and half now. My plan was to have the truck done for summer, but I guess I got sick of working on it and started working on my house. Well now, I'm sick of working on the house and have started working on the caddy again.

I had cut the windshield out one night in a bit of stupidity. Not so much that I didn't plan to replace the windshield, just by doing so I made the truck not weatherproof. So I decided I'll get the interior put together and then get the stupid thing running.

Anyway, when I cut the windshield out I found this:

After some simple green I was left with:

Considering the truck sat outside for the last 7 years of its life with a cracked windshield I have no complaints.

Sanded everything down and filled some spots in then onto primer:

Then onto some blue, I was able to find a pretty close match at Home Depot. Granted it will be under the windshield seal, but I figured close was better then not close in case the seal shrinks or something.

I also ordered a brand window and seal from VW, it truthfully wasn't even that spendy. I'm just sort of a sucker for using OEM body parts when you can get them.

So now that the windshield channel is cleaned up, I need to get the interior completed as the A pillars and headliner wrap under the windshield seal. And the headliner, B pillars and backboard wrap under the slider. My truck had blue vinyl on the A pillars and no headliner when I got. Not being a big fan of vinyl I took the interior boards to Precision and had them order some blue tweed and glue everything down. As the pro glue is way stronger then even the 3M spray stuff. But the A pillars are just fabric on the metal, so I had to cut and install them.

Big thanks to the Grandma that owned Jack's house before him. She left about 5 pounds of cloths pin and I put them to good use. Heck, even over the glue my hands smell like Grandma's laundry (that sounds sort of bad).

Since I plan to drive the truck year round and maybe take it to some of the shows I wanted to make it as quite as I could. So I picked two packs of Dynomat and put that in.

I only used one pack of dynomat, so I might cut and wrap the metal under the dash before I put the dash back in, that or I'll just return it.

Back wall of the cab mocked up.

Only the LX's got the backwall and the B pillars finished off. Since my truck isn't an LX, I was lucky and found a set in a guy's parts truck. It sound really help finish off the inside of the truck and help with noise and summer and winter temps.

I had brought the vinyl into precision along with the boards to use as patterns, but they must have goofed and cut both B pillars short. I'm going to bring them in and have them redue the B pillars as this would drive me nuts. Plus, I might have them wrap the visors as well in the same tweed.

    Clothspins, Clothspins, Clothspins

So that's where I'm at right now. I'll have to wait on the B pillars to get recovered before I can put the glass in. But I'm sure Precision will turn them around in a day or two.

I also have to decide if I want to run the 3 pain slider or the 4 pain one. Rumor has it that the 3 pain was from the factory and the 4 pains were installed at the dealership. I guess I'll have to look them over and figure out which one is in better shape.

I'd like to say not much, but everytime I work on it, I find more crap to finish/fix/redue.

Fuel accumulator needs to be mounted. The trucks used a special line and I have not been able to find one. The dealer still has them, but they are couple hundred bucks a piece. Once the accumulator is mounted I will have to flair and join the fuel line as my truck was diesel at some point in its life and the hard line is not in the right spot for the accumulator. I also need to go though and recheck the entire fuel system for crush washers and so on.

Vac system needs to be put together
Battery wiring for starter, alternator and amp need to be run
    Oil Cooler needs lines made
Stereo installed once dash is back in
Some interior wiring for heater fan and dome light(s)
    Alingment
Rear sway bars needs to be modified to fit

Then its off to SCI to have the CIS tuned and see if the thing makes any power.

I've heard that too. But I also know it sucks compared to dynomat. Dynomat isn't spendy unless you pay retail for it.

As for working with the stuff, pretty darn easy. I've used in pretty much all my project cars. Just clean the crap out of where you want to stick it and once you stick its on there for good.

Yeah, I know a lot of people don't run them, but I'd like to put it in there if possible.
