So long story short, I had a VW dealer in my area mount some tires for me, and so the journey begins:
I dropped off my car and a set of brand new wheels (NEW IN BOX) and semi-new tires, 6k on them and 1 brand new tire (i bought this off a guy on golfmk6 forums for a great deal). I left them early in the AM because I was psyched to get it on the car ASAP, so they tell me it's an hour to mount, balance and put them on my car, when they get done, they will give me a jingle. An hour passes, 2, 3, 4, and I get a bit worried, so I call them and they tell me there's a "mishap" .. and my stomach cringes, and I'm thinking to myself, "I fuggin' knew it, should have NOT had a dealer do this". So I get there and find out that one of the wheels was damaged, aka the outter rim was scratched to shidt, so they decided to "fix" the wheel before even telling me how they would do it. They have a guy with a mobile station go around and spray paint the crap out of the wheels OVER the brand new polish, so I'm thinking, take a new wheel fugg it up and pray the customer won't notice. Now 1 out of 4 wheels, you're thinking not a bad ratio, but it gets better.
So I tell them, I gave you a new wheel, I want a new wheel, PERIOD. After some huffin' and puffin' they agree upon that and proceed to order a new wheel, only one issue. VMR has them back ordered, have to wait 2-3 months. I'm thinking, OK ... Mount them up, even with the damaged wheel, at least I'll get some time with them before the new wheels arrives. That night, excited I decide to drive around town and stop at a gas station to fill up, afterwards .. pull around the corner, TPS warning light, stop ... the "damaged" wheel and its tire is flat. I'm thinking, new setup, new tire ... = flat, must be the overspray not giving adequate seal. So, I go back to dealer next day, with my limp-mode spare donut, and they check it out and all it needs is air ... hmmm, that's weird, no hole, no leak, nuttin' ...
I drove off into the oblivion, trying to enjoy the car and it's new shoes .. thinking, probably a fluke .. well 4 hrs later, TPMS light on ... air pressure low... fill up with 45PSI on a 41 PSI max load, and it holds air for a good 2-3 day and rinse and repeat for the next 2-3 weeks. So I'm frustrated, and at the same time been eyeing some black rims and decide to put these on the market, all intention on telling the next owner that the resprayed wheel needs to be changed out with the new one. Well fast forward 2 months, I get a new wheel, I'm happy, now have 5 wheels, 4 tires and a big fetish on some black shoes.
Weeks go by and most people not happy about the tire choice 225/35/19 on a 19x8.5 rim and the stretch ... so I decide to split the setup and sell them separately. Well today was the day when I really found out as to WHY the tire was leaking air. The beads torn on, leakin' air like a motherfugger .. and mind you this was a BRAND NEW tire I had to purchase to complete the set.
So I'm thinking before this, issue closed ... dealer did right by me by getting me a new wheel etc.
But what pisses me OFF the most is that they would BLATANTLY hide this shidt thinking I'll never replace the damn tires :screwy:, and by then it will be water under the bridge. But I was putting not only myself, but my son and wife and any other occupant with me, with a ticking timebomb ready to go off. I honestly would PAY for the replacement tire, and rather not put myself and anyone else riding with me in danger, than to have this hidden away and just sit on it. I know they fugged up with the wheel, but wheel AND tire would have cost someone their job and that's why they withheld this info me thinks. I am going back tomorrow morning to the dealer, with the tire to show them what is going on within their business and then to give them a peace of my mind. I will not ask for money, but will write the nastiest letter to the GM and the dealer chain about this experience.
I'm sure most of you will think I'm nuts and just blowing things out of proportion, but this is beyond ANYTHING i have EVER seen from a dealer. So now I'm looking like a baffoon trying to sell this to someone else, thank god nobody bought the wheels and tires. So now I have 5 wheels, 2 tires, and the other damaged one will "hold air" per tech at discount tire, but how can I sell that to someone knowingly the bead has been damaged.
So TCL, what think you of the situation and help me help myself. FFS and my damn luck.
Pic of the car with the setup, looks epic .. bonerrific material:
Picture of the tires, yes I said tires .. not 1 damaged, but 2:
