    Default G12 coolant

    Replacing the timing belt and water pump tomorrow on the Jetta and wanted to be sure to get the right coolant. I think I found some at Walmart but can someone verify? Obviously don't want to spend $20+ per gallon.

    Thanks!

    I doubt Wal-Mart has G12. Don't buy the universal stuff and mix it. Only use G12 unless you're going to completely flush the system with distilled water before changing over.

    O'Reilly carries Pentosin/Pentofrost G12, Id' go there. Be sure to use distilled water and a 50/50 mix.

    If I can find the pics, I'll post why you should NOT mix the universal crap in with the G12. It turns into a wonderful brown sludge.

    Check the dealer for pricing too. It was either really close to or cheaper than it was at O'Reilly's or NAPA the last time I bought some.

    Wow double post on phone. Oh well. Need it tonight anyway. O'Reilly is much more convenient. Dealer has it for $23 a gallon or so. Already checked.

    At O'Reilly's it's $13.99/1.5L which is about 1/3 gallon or 44.99/5L which is about 1 1/3 gallons

    1.8T, just pulled the water pump? Did you fully drain the system first? If so, you'll need that gallon.

    Total capacity according to the Bentley:

    1.8t & 2.0 = 5.3 Quarts (5L)
    VR6 = 9.5 Quarts (9L)
