    Default Headlight conversion questions

Hi guys. I have been planning on doing a fixed headlight conversion on the '92 Anal Probe for awhile now and couldn't figure out how to do it cheaply enough. Then I had an idea today and would like to ask you guys a few questions.

The car has two regular sized halogen pop up headlights which are hard wired in. Old picture

I was originally planning on building a bracket to keep them in the "up" position, but lowered down with a bumper cutout like so.

But the core support is in the way, meaning the lights will still stick up a bit.

I was wondering if I could use small headlights and buckets from an early 80's car.

This would allow me to mount two in the original locations with lexan lenses, and two elsewhere on the front end, likely in the grille area.

    Questions:

-Do the smaller lights use the same kind of wire, ie will I be able to simply cut and extend the stock wires?

-How do the high and low beams work? Is each pair either high or low? Will I need to wire this differently?

-Will there be a compatibility problem switching from halogens to regular?

    Thanks!

PS- The reason for this is aerodynamics. Pop up headlights in the "on" position create a lot of drag.

Thought about adapting from an S13 or FC RX7 but ultimately it comes down to money. As in I need to spend as close to zero as possible.

Also. The headlight motors and/or linkages are FUBAR. To raise or lower the lights I have to physically pry off/shove on the linkages.

Those GM "mini quad" sealed beam headlights contain one filament per housing, so you'd need two per side if you desire high- and low-beams.

    Awesome. Thanks Colin.

So I would have to find the high beam switch and take off a separate wire to the high beams bulbs? If it's as simple as adding a wire to it I think I could handle that.

you might have to wire in a relay or two, but it's all pretty straight forward. Not to be confused with HID, projector lights just place a glass orb in front of the bulb to redirect light.

The hardest part would be fabricating a housing that would keep moisture out.

Unless I cut that front bracket away it's not going to fit there. But I like where this is going! Keep the ideas flowing!

If the bracket is not necessary I may just hack it off. Will check it out after the paint job is done. The Olds unit would be slick if it would fit there.

Cut some holes and fab up your own buckets. As far as wire gauge goes, just use the same size or smaller (gauge).
