You may need some 225 rear tires too. A 255/40 tire will have a 24mm larger diameter than a 225/40, which from what I've heard won't work well with Quattro.
I thought they were all 255/40/17. That's what the ad said. When I got there, they were staggered. So I looked it up on my phone quick, and found that staggered is fine as long as the two diameters are within 3% difference of each other. I put them side by side and one on top of the other and they looked the same, so I went with it.
What about if I look for a 225 45 tire for the fronts, or 235 40 or 245 40.... The 225 45 has a diameter of 24.97in.
I realized the mm/inches typo later in the night and just didn't change it. Woooops!! :-)
When u staggered your all road set, what were the tire sizes?
I'm contemplating just selling trading these/they're a good set of amg's... Just not for Quattro I guess. Unless I can find wider fronts to bring the diameter closer. Really like the set and really like the idea of refinishing the faces white.

There are probably 3 members here who have practical experience running MB wheels on their Audi. Rather than wait for them to march in here and school us all, looking in other (Audi-specific) forums will be a more effective way to tget your answers
Wheels are staggered, tires are square. I'm running 255/35-20 Falken 912's
The allroad is a bad comparison to use since it's fitment is totally different from a passat, but the same thing applies to the drivetrain. "Someone" said 3% was okay. If an Audi engineer who knows quattro inside and out were to tell me 3% was okay, I would still minimize it as much as possible. There was a short time I ran staggered tires, and they were 245/35-20 and 285/30-20, which is essentially the same rolling diameter, at .1" diameter difference.
Now that you see I ran a 285 on the back of an allroad with room to spare, you'll see how different our vehicles are.
K.
I went out and looked at my wheels. They are 7.5 et37 fronts and 8.5 et30 rears.
I am going to go look at some tires this afternoon. Four 245/45/17 with good tread. Shouldn't need to be stretched on the backs, but will 245 fit on the fronts?
I would think if I have four of the same tire, they would be no problem for the Quattro... I know the rims are different widths, but this tire should fit both, right?
The higher sidewall the better up here in Duluth. Potholes are often and deep.
I've been doing a little bit of both. Thanks for the feedback though. When I look in other forums, it is helpful.. But none of them are my exact situation, so there's a gray area, always. These guys have been helpful so far and I hope they continue to be helpful. I'm getting schooled and appear to be an idiot at times I'm sure, but I'm getting the help I need and I'm learning. I'm sure these guys had a learning period as well.
Just gotta tough it out and get it figured out.
Need to know if 245/45/17 will fit a 7.5 rim ASAP though cuz going to look at those tires this afternoon.
I did. And it says they'll work perfectly and have the same exact diameter of 25.7".
Big sidewall, but good for potholes and fills the gap a bit too. I hope it works.
Anyone interested inthetires I'll be pulling off? 255/40/17 and 225/40/17 about 50%tread left. Not sure what theyd be worth. Kumho ecsta asx. I'll put them inthe for sale section if I end up getting the four tires today.
Ugh. Major oversight results in me having extra tires.
So I went to look at the 245/45/17's for sale. Bought em because the tread was so good. Came home and looked at my amg's with the kumhos mounted. Saw this:
Fronts are 225/45/17. Rears are 255/40/17.
Thus being the reason they look the same side by side and on top of one another.
They are both 25" in diameter. Rears are 636mm. fronts are 634mm
So. I'll be selling/trading the tires I bought 5 minutes ago.
Also, checked to see if the audi 14mm bolts fit. No... they do not. So I will need the stud adaptors I was talking about earlier.
I need the 14mm to 12mm stud adaptors with nuts kit. They nees to be 2.25" in length. Thats all I need to mount these wheels/tires!! Hopefully the understeer isnt terrible.
