Default BMW 633 is a bit slow

Well, i have a bmw 633csi and I am looking for a shop manual, yesterday i took it down to the cities and enjoyed the drive but the car was a bit sluggish, i am unsure where abouts in the rpms these cars start to make power, but anyways does anyone know of any sort of performance upgrades for these cars? or could atleast point me in the right direction? any help would be greatly appreciated. i have seen stuff about turbo cars and such but never touched a turbo gas car before and know nothing about them.

It was fast in the 80's.

Now, most minivans are going to beat in the 1/4 mile. That's probably what you are feeling.

Start with the basics...intake/header/exhaust/ECU chip? Do they make chips for these?

um i went to hop on the free way and dropped a gear and put it to the wood, and it just kinda said BLAH. Is there somewhere that sells a intake, header, ect for these? i have no problem building a header and such for it, but One i dont want it to sound like a blender on crack, two weld up header kits work but dont look the best, three: i dont want some god awful can hanging crooked 2feet off the back at a retarded angle, i am sure i can buy an intake kit thatll work but id rather see if i can find something ment for these cars first

The parts you might put on are your choice. Good luck with the search!

Fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, coils, wires, pull the injectors and make sure they are clean.

God is probably gonna sit this out. Unless, i say hell with it and grab my giant shoe horn and squeeze a big cube caddy in her... But seriously i don't know if that's just how these cars are and i was just expecting way more.

Your 0-60 time should be about 8 seconds. As was mentioned, every minivan sold today is faster than that.

it's not going to be terribly quick. the car is already kind of a porker at well over 3000lbs, and sits at under 200bhp with the m30b32.

Did you really buy it expecting it to be fast?

This is an honest and serious question.

No its an 80s car didn't expect fast, didn't expect it to fall on its face either.

without actually driving your car its hard for me to say if you are actually having an issue or just not used to the car.

i own a 633 and they aren't the quickest cars in the world but its not exactly sluggish either. you should be expecting 0-60 in the above quoted 8 seconds or so and your performance should be very smooth and consistent -- most of your torque is going to be availible above 1800 rpm so it comes up quick from a stop, the M30 has pretty good low end torque and its pretty level through the power band. these are more of cursing/touring cars and sadly if you have a US model, its down 30hp from the euro with its much lower compression to meet emission standards of the 1980s.

simple tune up for these cars however does amazing things and its pretty basic, plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc. also make sure your fuel pumps are strong, esp the secondary fuel pump that sits just in front of the rear axle...so if its falling on its face i'd be looking closely at your fuel system since thats a typical problem for these cars with neglected care -- it took me a while to track mine down which ended up being a weak in-tank fuel pump and a rotten fuel tank itself that needed replacement.

don't waste your time with an intake on these cars, most of what you will find out there is going to be useless, and the old school MAF does not respond well to cone filters. if you are looking for more power however and are willing to put in the effort, there are plenty of upgrades that you can do to the M30 since they made them for decades, it just really depends on what your after. i am in the process of upgrading my head, cams, pistons, and possibly a turbo setup to liven it up a little bit.

if you really want to enjoy your 6 even more, upgrade your suspension and brakes and you have an excellent touring car.

if you have any 6'er questions feel free to shoot me a PM -- i've been tough my 633 nose to tail and if you have a problem i have probably experienced it at one time or another since mine was a basket case when i got it.

*edit* and yes they do make chips for these. but they're not all that great

This. Bring it back to "stage 0" before you start modifying things.

thanks for the input, i concluded that the wires were bad, i ran it through a car wash and wow did it run like hell, new plugs and wires and it was like a different car. And thank you for calling it an m30 i had no idea what to search for as far as what engine it was, with that being said, does anyone know what the guts of these are like, are they forged? cast? plastic or what? i found a turbo kit http://www.turbochargingdynamics.com...si_Stage_2.php does any one know anything about this place? but i imagine just like any engine there is going to have to be some supporting mods made aswell. i would really like to find a motor i could rebuild and drop in, i dont know where to even look for one, does anyone have any idea where to find a shop manual for these? Forgive me if i occasionaly ask a stupid question or say something dumb, but i really have zero experience messing with ecu's and such on cars, ive always had carburated simple american cars. thanks again for any info.
