Default Need some advise about my A/C compressor???

Ok, so it has been bitching hot out lately and I really would like to get my A/C back working in my car. So the story goes like this. Last fall my A/C clutch took a shit and messed up my belt and then my belt tensioner. So I replaced the belt and the tensioner and called it a summer. I figured I would change the compressor or clutch sometime in the spring. Havent yet, but really need to now!!! I was wondering what I should do. I can get a used compressor from Viking for 105 bucks, Can get a new clutch kit from ebay for 50, or get a new aftermarket for like 150 from ebay. I dont really want to put a ton of money in the car so i was just thinking about doing the clutch. But I need a clutch pulley puller?? Anyone have one?

    Thanks

If you're going the used compressor route, upull has them for $29 w/core, and there are always a healthy number of 2.0 mk3s there.

Personally, I'd find a cheap reman compressor, as I don't like replacing compressors that much. One should be able to find a cheap reman for $125ish that will probably outlast a junkyard compressor.

Replacing just the clutch sucks and isn't really worth the time.

Also don't forget to add oil when recharging your system after replacing the compressor.

    that's my $.02.

If you open the system your going to have to get a vac pump and some gauges to refill it.

And you should probably replace the drier too...

I don't know why people don't do that, they're dirt cheap.

Good point. The drier should be replaced any time the system is opened to the atmosphere.
