No, mk2 uses a relay.
I know I have two, just need to find them. I'll check in the morning.
I had a 95 burn down due to a faulty one of these. I strongly suggest replacing it at any cost. :tear:
Does anyone have one to sell or let me borrow?
I got a new one from Ebay, and I have no high speed fan, plus the low speed fan doesn't shut off when the car is turned off. I got another new one, and it does the same thing. So I don't know if I received two faulty brand new ones or my car is goofy.
So I'd really like to try these new ones in another car, or try a known working one. This model was found in 92~94, golf, jetta, passat, & corrado.
Hey Aaron,
Maybe you have already seen this page but it might help
http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed...work/index.htm
You could have a faulty radiator temp switch, if it is bad (shorted out) it could cause the fans to run even when the car is off
This is from that web page -
IF THE COOLING FANS DO NOT WORK:
Well, here's a fast test. The Fan should Should have these colored wires:
Brown (ground)
Red/White (low)
Red/Gray (high)
Locate the fan sensor (drivers side, near headlight, in rad..) its a 3 wire sensor.
It should have these wires:
Red +12V from fuse 19, 30A under dash
Red/White (low speed trigger)
Red/Yellow (high speed trigger)
Check All fuses under dash. 19, 6 and 4 are key as well as a brass colored bar on the coolant module.
Anyhow. On the fan sensor, unplug it, and jump with a paper clip:
RED to Red/White (fan should come on low speed)
Unplug it. and then;
RED to Red/Yellow. (fan should work on high speed)
IF THE FAN RUNS REPLACE THE SENSOR IN THE RADIATOR.
---
IF the fan DOES NOT come on jump power TO THE FAN.
IF THE FAN RUNS when jumped directly to power:
Replace FCM.

Thanks sean, i have actually been down that very same trouble shooting path, and am at the "Replace FCM" step.
....the high speed fan ONLY works when supplying 12v directly to the fan; jumping the sensor gets only low speed.
have you checked the condition of the radiator temp switch though?
if that has shorted out it could be the cause of the fan running when the car turns off
I wish I could help more but the FCM for my MKIV is different
good luck

Does your fcm have 10 or 8 pins on the little connection? I have 3 (10 pin version) that you can have for shipping to you. If they work great if not toss them in the trash.
hey Arron,
Give me a call I have the same problem but mine only comes on high speed when i jumper the thermo switch in the radiator. I have the FCM that i got from you at the swap meet it didn't change my problem. I left it in there, can get it back to you if you need.
