Default Ideas for moving an engine

So we're clearing out the shop in Hastings and I need to move my S52 home. It's on a stand, but the stand belongs to BimmerTim and he's taking that back to his house. My problem is, how do I get the engine home and stored? I don't own a stand or a cherry picker, nor do I have any clue what the best thing to do is. Rent a UHaul? Home Depot truck? What is the best way to transport this engine?

And I need to figure this out by the end of the week. Thanks.

I would go for one of these:
    http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...and-32916.html

You can buy 'Hot Rod' magazine or something similar, and get a 20% off coupon for anything at HF. That would bring you down to 50 some bucks, which is a deal, plus you get a magazine to read.

As far as transportation goes.....a friend with a truck???

Sell it to me and I'll pick it up for you.

Or maybe I can haul it in the allrightroad.

I've always used a pallet to move a complete motor. Drop it from the stand onto the pallet. Strap it down to the pallet. Use cherry picker to lift into a truck bed. My friends and I moved a complete M20 from Kansas City to Springfield, MO.

I have a pallet (baby pallet, it's 24" x 48") and a cherry picker with a load balancer you can use if you'd like. I'll be around Thursday and Friday this week as well as all weekend. Just say the word and you can use them.

Then you just need to borrow someone's truck or rent one for the day. U-haul would be overkill. A regular pickup from a rental place will work well.

Buy that engine stand recommended above and you're all done.

Engine hoist, into back of vehicle with a tarp down to catch fluids. It makes it more stable if the subframe is attached when you set it down. If you don't have one I do. I also have a hoist you can borrow. Then buy yourself an engine stand, or leave it on a pallet like someone said. I'd say I could help but I ain't got no time brother-man. Let me know if you want to borrow anything.

I brought a VR6 home in my A4 Avant once. It sagged pretty hard in the back, but it fit no problem. Still needed a picker to get it out when I got home though.

We have a shit ton of pallets if you need to borrow one. I'd be down there in a heartbeat if the F100 were on insurance.

If you need someone to drink and watch- err, help- lemme know.

Just take the passenger seat out. a straight-six will fit in there just fine.

(for scale, this is an e30 with an m20 in it)

You can haul an engine in any vehicle that has room for it. If the engine fits in a hatchback or wagon you can go that route. Now a pickup truck would be the best option as far as ease of loading/unloading goes.

Don't bother with Uhaul, HD, for renting a truck. Uhaul charges by the mile, and HD has a 90 or 120 minute time limit. Go to Enterprise rent a car. They have full size vans and pickups and they rent them cheap with unlimited mileage.

As for the actual movement of your engine. Use the hoist to get it in the truck, use a tree, some pulleys, and some rope at your end to get it out. Once it's on the ground you can drag it around, or maybe use a two wheeler.

old tires hold engines well. then get two or three friends to help you pick it up and move it around.
