    Default Quick valve job

I'm building a head for my TDI and I'd like to find someone to back cut my valves and do a 3 angle valve job. I'm planning on buying a valve guide reamer and install my own valve guides and seals.

Do any of you guys have the equipment or access to it, or maybe could recommend a shop that won't cost me a ton?

    Thanks,

    Jon

I just got off the phone with Tom that Kris posted about. He wants to do everything himself, from disassembly to guides, to valves. From his point of view, I can understand. I feel that I am more than capable of disassembly, putting in new guides, but from there I'd just like to have them reamed and seats/valves cut. He definitely wants more than I want to pay at the moment.

A piloted guide reamer would cost $80 from Goodson.

I'm hoping to find a garage mechanic who happens to have capabilities of cutting seats and back cutting valves.

I'm half tempted to chuck up the valves in a lathe and take a tool post grinder to them to back cut them or chuck them up in the deckel(tool grinder) at work.

I found a guy in South St. Paul who has my head right now to be hot tanked. He has quite the nice collection of equipment in his 3 car garage. Either he will do the valve job or I have a contact in WI who has access to the equipment that I might go visit.

The guy in S. St. Paul hasn't ever worked on a TDI head. He does mostly American stuff but is confident it won't be difficult. I'm going to have to get a better feel whether I want him to do it or not. The other guy has and I can help with that one.

Yup! stock valves were ground then back cut for better flow. I cleaned them up prior, they were pretty cruddy.
