MK3 Golf Body plugs?

Rotated the tires on my Golf today and noticed that I was missing at least two of the black plugs that go fit into the holes in the under body. What are the significance of these? Where can I get some to replace the dry rotted/missing ones?

(as a precaution, I temporarily glued in a piece of plastic to keep water out.)

VW dealership. You will probably have to order them though. Standard sizes don't fit very well unless you find a plug with a big flange. I went to u pull r parts and pulled a bunch off junk cars to get a hand full of good ones when I did the underside of my golf.
