So found out quickly I had the wrong wiring diagram. There are 2 different versions of the climatronic. Up until 2001 VW used a 10 and 12pin harness, then they switched to a 10 and 17pin. Since my box is from an R32 I needed the 17pin wiring diagrams. Found this handy info.

    T17a
    1 - Fuse 25 in fuse box (S225) 25A
    2 -
    3 - T10/8 (orange connector in plenum)
    4 - T10/9 (orange connector in plenum)
    5 - Fuse 5 (7.5A)
    6 - Earth connection
7 - Fuse 16 (10A) and T14/4 (Rad fan control unit below battery)
8 - Pin 2 of outside temp sensor (earth)
    9 -
    10 - Illumination wire (any grey/blue wire)
    11 -
    12 - T10/7 (orange connector in plenum)
    13 -
    14 -
    15 -
    16 -
    17 –

    T12a
    1 - K wire (pin 7 of OBDII port)
2 - T14/8 (rad fan control unit below battery)
    3 -
    4 -
5 - Pin 1 of outside temp sensor
    6 -
    7 -
    8 - Pin 3 of sunlight sensor
9 - T14/12 (rad fan control unit below battery)
    10 - T32/3 (blue connector on cluster)
    11 -
    12 - T32a/26 (Green connector on cluster)

The kufatec harness also has writing on the wires for their destination but its in german. This hardness makes things so much easier.

    Success!

Ill add more pictures later with a little more detail.

More pictures of the climatronic swap. Not as bad as it looks.

Draining the AC. These fittings worked really well.

Removing the dash is really easy. There are 2 screws on each side, 1 behind the cluster and 2 on each side of the radio cage. Also be sure you disconnect the fuse box and OBDII port from the bottom of the dash. The mess is not as bad as it looks.

The HVAC system is held in by 4 nuts behind the heat shield.
    2 Here

and 2 next to the AC connection.

    Manual HVAC out!

    Kufatec Harness

Outside temp sensor and sunlight sensor I picked up from a junkyard for $10. The defrost vent has a blank cover where the sensor is supposed to go. No need to buy a new vent assembly.

    The wiring station!

Everything will be wrapped in the OEM cloth tape. This stuff is awesome!

Wiring the leveling switch. Remove the pins from the stock one and put them in the new housing in the same order. The red wire goes to the red/yellow wiring on the headlight switch. This gives the leveler switch power.

Dash going back in. Still need to clean up the wires for the Jetta vents, and my footwell lights.

    and the final picture again:

It really isn't that bad once you get your head around the wiring and what needs to be connected to what. Like I said the premade hardness makes it so much easier. The interior is actually really easy to take apart too.

Another huge parts order on the way as of this afternoon...

Getting closer to getting the interior together. I was running into some lighting problems then realized the green plug on the cluster had come loose. Lots of random things didn't work either. (Windows, central locking) Couldn't get a signal from the K-Line for diagnostics so VAG-COM would not connect to any controller. Started freaking out... "oh god why.jpg" LOL. I spent 3 hours trying to figure this out.

    Things done tonight:
Got the fuel pump relay and wiring hooked up. Grounded below the battery.
Cleaned up all the grounds in the engine bay.
Got the "waterfall" of wiring finished up. Cover back on.
Dropped off a few parts to get powder coated.
Started polishing bolts and nuts for the engine cover.
Cleaned up the wiring I have added over the years. (Boost and A/F wiring, radar detector, garage door opener, lighted Jetta vents, and the footwell lighting.
Tested the leveler motors and switch for functionality.
Called Westside VW to get the code for my radio.

Put the Climatronic through a self test with VAG-COM.

    Time for bed!!

When do you think it'll be done? Did you install a new heater-core? I would just because it would suck pulling the dash out again.
