    Default Rat Rod Appreciation Thread.

Rat rods are incredible. Everyone of them is different, nobody builds them the same. They are pieced together with whatever you can find or with whatever you dare to combine.

I love rats. I'm actually gonna get my dad a subscription to your magazine for his BDay.
For some reason this VW is one of my favorites:

yeah I've seen a few pics that make it look like its poorly engineered. I just love that its something completely different from what you normally see in both the Rat Rod and MK1 scene. Plus I'm sure the thing is fast as hell.

honestly it looks a bit hacked together looking at the front core support... really need to see more to know for sure. undoubtedly fast. likely equipped with a whole lot of crappy brakes too like the rest of the rat rods....thats the one thing I never understood.

Hood ride isn't rat rod. Burrough's BMW can GTFO lol

Yes, Kris. Most of these rat rodders don't think about brakes. I have even seen some with no tunnel over the driveshaft on the interior. Bad news. I try to steer clear from those cars, especially when I shoot for the magazine. Unsafe cars are not cool.

Now the best part about these rat rods is there are TONS of companies out there making parts to fit disc brakes onto the old solid axle front suspensions. As more and more people make these parts the price is coming down and more car owners are buying the kits. Safety is increasing.

Don't they also make covers that let you run disc brakes but have the appearance of drums?

They make covers but the idea there is to keep brake dust off the wheels. I'm not sure there are covers that resemble drums.

I swear I remember seeing something on an episode of Trucks a long time ago about a company that made them.
