11/18/2010 -- Purchased 1998 VW Golf K2 195,650 miles
11/18/2010 -- Engine seized due to oil starvation (Paper towel in the oil pick up)
11/18/2010 – Brought to SCI for following repairs:
• 2.0 ABA engine
• Spark plugs
• Timing belt
• Timing belt ensioner
• Clutch kit
• Valve cover gasket
• Oil cooler seal
• Water pimp
• Thermostat o-ring
• Thermostat
• Cooling hose flange
• Mass airflow
• O2 sensors
• Radiator fan
Roughly $2,200 in parts/labor and a month without a car. I was not a happy camper but hey, shit happens.
New last last fall:
• Raceland Coilovers ~ $350
• JB Eurotech alignment/general suspension check ~$145
• Tim’s custom exhaust ~ $550
Things to note:
• No parking brake due to rear disc conversion. PO never set it up and I haven’t either
• Check Engine Light. Don’t remember the exact codes but Chad at SCI thought it was MAF/O2 Sensors but since we have replaced both and still there it’s possibly from having no cat. Still get 30+MPG and haven’t noticed it effecting drivability/performance
• Some rust (see pics) but no rotted panels. Mainly surface rust/bubbles
• A/C delete.
• Rear wiper delete
• 206,xxx miles and goes up daily
• 5spd transmission
• K2 Edition with heated seats Votex rack NOT included
Overall the car has been solid since the initial implosion. I use it as a winter daily from Woodbury to Minnetonka. It has been very reliable even in cold temperatures and long distances. Looking for outright sale of $2,500 this weekend only (1/13-1/16) and willing to entertain trades for BMW car or a SOLID truck/SUV. I have way too much invested in this car and do not want to do the same thing with another car. Lastly, please keep any BS out of here. Thanks for looking.
