I'm a college student in richmond, va. The thing that brought me to the euro side was their diesels. I bought a 2000 Golf TDI almost 2 years ago with 62,000 miles on it. It belonged to an older lady who lived in near a metro and had barely any use for the car.
The best thing about this car has to be the gas mileage. I average around 40 with the automatic transmission, highway can see 45, and it doesn't have to drive like a prius either. I installed larger injectors about 10,000 miles ago, and now from a start it would peel the tires for about 7 seconds if I put the pedal down enough, not to mention a large cloud of smoke. I hope to get a chip to make cleaner power and run it on pure biodiesel.
The only cosmetics I've done are rims, tint and painting the headlights, grill, and calipers. However, my shed is filled to the roof with an interior overhaul that will be going in shortly.
I'll put up some pics tomorrow, but just the outside for now

Thanks! They're really useful sometimes, especially on commutes due to the gas mileage, oil change intervals, and overall reduced engine wear/ increased life expectancy. Most other TDI's like mine have made it to 300k+ miles with a couple breaking 500k! The biggest problem with them is probably the effect of increased torque on transmissions. Dodge's are cursed with it, and VW's only good diesel transmissions are the manuals. The automatic in mine will have problems with any more torque than I have, and still may die prematurely :.(. Other than that, as a daily driver it feels just like any other car, just pulling up to an isolated pump.
