Default What 205/40r16 to y'all recommend?

In the market for a new set of tires. I looked into Falken ZE-512's in 205/40r16, which I have had before and liked, but the tire place I'm looking at purchasing from doesn't have them available. Curious what is comparable to the 512's in looks and price. They are going on a 16x8 wheel. Thanks.

Dunlop Direzza DZ101 is very close to the same tread width. Also, not far off is Toyo Proxes T1R. It's a little wider, but not too bad.

The Dunlop was a little bit more, but not much. Maybe $10-$15/tire more. Not sure on the Toyo.

When I bought my Falkens, they were $74per, and the Dunlops were $8?per. I wanted the dunlops, but the Falkens also had a $40 rebate, so the price was too good not to.

cool. as long as he is under like $90 or so a tire, i think it is reasonable-ish. i mean, its a 4 door 2 liter, so he doesnt need anything super crazy. Just a good all around summer tire.

This is the response I got from the tire shack I was talking with.

Here are our three least expensive 205/40R16 tires.

    Nexen $84.00 each

    Falken 912 $91.04 each.

    Kumho $96.40 each

I think I will just order locally or discounttiredirect.com.

Why the hell was that all blue? Oh thats why.

I checked with discounttiredirect yesterday. My wheels are in a far away land and was looking at just having them do the tires since they offered free mount and balance. But the numbers just don't add up since it will add another $110 to the shipping and they don't offer tires I would consider. I will probably see what Samaritan offers up and compare it to the cost of sourcing tires from discount + local mounting. Thanks for the input queers.

FWIW, I talked to Blake @ Samaritan when I had tires mounted on the RS', and he charged me $15/tire. I just mentioned Eurowerks.

Just got off the phone with Blake at Samaritan, nice guy over the phone btw, 205/40r16 Falken 512's mounted/balanced with tax $443. He quoted me $15 a pop to mount and balance alone. Told him discounttiredirect had the tires for $300 shipped and said I wouldn't hurt his feelings if I bought them somewhere else and brought them to Samaritan for the install. Super honest guy. Love when people are straight forward with me. Also said a front end alignment for the ole shaggin wagon jetta would be $50! Now that's a good deal on an alignment if you ask me. I named dropped eurowerks to get these prices. Didn't know this posse had that kind of pull round these here parts. Go internet!
