Sabine & The Beast

Beth (aja) and I decided that we needed a thread to house the happenings with our recent cars. Since they are not project cars in the sense that we are modding/building them, it doesn't really belong in the project forum.

Last October, Beth purchased her first BMW/Euro car: The Beast, a 2011 135i 6-speed manual, M-Sport, Premium, Harmon Kardon...

We had to get some snows on quickly for winter and grabbed some Blizzak WS70s on Moda MD11s from Tire Rack.

With those wheels and tires, The Beast gracefully plowed through just about any of the huge storms we had this winter.

BMWs recent traction control is superb and doesn't even let you get slightly sideways unless you turn it off. It also feels less intrusive than VWs system.

After enjoying Beth's car quite immensely, I decided that I also needed a BMW. I quickly ruled out an E36 M3 due to the daily driver status that the car will have to endure. I still would like to own one someday when we have more garage space. I ended up ordering my car in January and took delivery in February.

Enter Sabine: 2011 328i, 6-speed manual, M-Sport, Premium, Convenience, Winter...

We are both immensely thankful to be where we are and have worked and continue to work very hard to be able to enjoy these cars. I will for sure be autocrossing my car and will attempt to get Beth out a few times as well. Let the fun begin!

Yep, free maintenance for 4 years/50k miles. Although, we will probably change the oil more often. 15,000 miles is waaaay too long in MN, I don't care if it's super synthetic.

Also, got my winter wheel/tire setup this week:

17" modas with Dunlop Wintersport 3D tires. Same wheels as Beth's but they are a darker paint.

I am so exhausted from today after my first autocross. GREAT day, perfect weather, so much fun, amazing instructors that pushed me to drive faster than what I thought I was capable of. The car was mostly flawless, but I do wonder if that "Nanny" in the 135 is always still present, even with all the DSG turned off. OR, maybe it was me. There is definitely room for me to improve.

Matt, thanks for loaning me your old helmet. If was only slightly freaky restricting to wear while driving.
