    Default Help my paint?!?!

OK so Eric painted the car but there are minor imperfections and still has alot of work left to be done before show quality. But for his first complete car its a damn good job. Either way i need this taken care of. its driving me crazy. So i need someone to show me how to use an orbital in order to sand and buff the car so i dont have any swirls and have the best shine out there.

any takers? i am open everyweekend or on a weeknight after 6pm. Cary? Mike? Stickymike? anyone?

i am not sure. maybe eric can chime in on this. there is white dust all over my door jambs still from sanding. I am not super pleased with the quality but like i said for his first complete job it is pretty damn good.

the paint needs to be sanded and waxed for sure. And i would like someone to teach me how to do all of that. I want to get into detailing. Mike let me know if you are available this weekend.

let that new paint cure before you wax it, or you are going to have much bigger issues to deal with. and in this case, an orbital isnt going to do anything for you. i have done plenty of wet sanding, color sanding, as well as new paint buffing. but depending on whats needed, it could be hours of work. all depends on how perfect you want it, and what there is to deal with. without seeing the car, hard to say.

I think the car painted in early June or late July, so it's probably fine to wax, right?

well, usually the rule is a month to let the paint outgas at minimum, 2-3 months if you want to be careful.

the car probably needs some fine grit wetsanding and some heavy buffing finishing out with a polish.

i bought the car in late june. it had already been about a month since he finished the paint job. so its had about 3 months with no wax.

Anyone available for this weekend? send me a pm or call me 651-398-4461

Ill pay you to teach me how to do all of this stuff.

Ok well after Mike took some time to look at it. Its a lot worse than i thought. there is a lot more pocking in the paint than i thought. not to mention the base prep is showing that it was not very good. So after a good long talk with mike it looks like the best i can do is see if i can have Eric take the car while i am in boot camp, redo the rear quarter panel where the random bubbling happened. Have him apply more clear to the rear decklid. And possibly redo the whole hood again. And maybe add another full coat of clear to the whole car. Its that or else just saying fuck it since the inside of the fender wells already are rusting along with a few other spots of the undercarriage that were painted. The car will either become a designated track car or i will cut my losses and move on... At the moment option 2 looks better to me. 227k motor with major problems and sub-par paint....

yeah i am not very happy with the car right now. i feel like i overpaid by at least $1k but I am not about to go back to Eric and complain and ask for my money back or anything. Its definitely in need of lots of work. We will see. Hopefully this winter i dont run into any really good deals on cars or chances are this thing will be ousted so fast its not even funny.

well the problem is he painted the car and then sold it to me, it wasnt like i had him paint it for me. plus its not a matter of going over it in a few spots. the whole hood needs to be redone. the trunk. and basically the whole car needs another coat of clear. BUT!! i decided that if I dont sell the car. I am redoing the paint in a stronger different color. but its a secret that no one will no about.
