Since i have gotten the jetta i have put new oil sending units i, replaced the junky wipers, got the bumper attached properly. The only thing that i really hate about it is the shift boot and rod chopped.

It sucks because you rally have to be careful when you shift or the knob will fly off.

That is what i do but sometimes it fly's off. I plan to get the rod threaded and get a threaded shift knob.

just weld a T handle to the top of it. a good 1.5" thick round steel bar right across the top about 3-4 inches wide'll do it. maybe even grind some finger holds into it and use a scratch awl to write "B&M" onto the top.

Sorry, my childhood redneck tends to peek out of the dark deep corner i stuffed it into at night.

Hahaha. Great advice! Scratching in B&M is a must.

    that shifter is lovely.

if you got your hands on a new shifter, you can change it without pulling the exhaust. just take the nuts off of the base and use a hammer from the underside (providing the exhaust isn't directly in the way) to pop it up into the car.

It might need the linkage re-done to. It takes some effort/force to put it in first gear.

nah, I'm talking about if you would like to change the rod/lever out for one that hasn't been hacked apart.

O i know i was just saying it also needs that also on top of that. I do have a mk1 shift rod but i dont think i could see how that would work.
