bullshit. its the #2 defining visual characteristic when you look at a car, right behind color/bodywork.

They just had to be different and throw an Audi motor in there, didn't they?
So I own 2 cars made in Mexico, 1 car made in Germany, and 1 car made in the US.
The funny thing is they are all the same brand.

Yea, I think its an awesome motor choice. Rather then going cosworth or something else rare. Audi was pumping 500 bhp in 1984 with a 2.1L I5 20v. Very easy to repeat and run comfortable with in today's engine management systems.

of course they do, think about it. a larger rolling diameter will use less engine rpm to get to a certain speed than a smaller rolling diameter, that left over rpm is used towards a higher final velocity in each gear.

a 16" wheel travels 50.27" per revolution and a 13" wheel travels 40.84" per revolution. so at the same wheel rpm, say 1500, the car with the larger wheels is traveling 71.4 mph and the car with the smaller diameter wheels is only traveling 58.0 mph.

I like those wheels, just not on that car. They look too big and the stance is wrong. I'd go with a smaller, lighter wheel (maybe those wheels aren't heavy) and run thick rubber on em.

not everyone's primary concern is the visuals.

i do see where you're coming from, i guess i'm just paying more attention to the fabrication work and uniqueness of it.
