So Friday after work Josh (my roomie) and I went over to our storage unit and towed my 82 Scirocco back to the house. This car has a long history with me. An old girlfriend bought this car in Ohio in 2003? and after a long drawn out project the car made its way to Iowa. When our relationship came to a horrid end, she wanted to sell it but I could not let the car go to just anyone, so I bought it from her. Eventually I finally got the engine bay stripped down and cleaned up.
Original plans were to replace the original 1.7L with a 1.8L 10:1 compression motor. Also replace the FF long ratio tranny with the 2H out of my 83 roc I parted several yrs before.
The car sat as a rolling shell for several yrs again. In various places as I moved around the area and did or didn't have room in my storage unit.
Eventually, the day came that I needed to get rid of the car in choice of my Grandpa's 78 Ford F150 that I was buying from my brother.
Tim bought the car from me.
Tim got into a tight spot several months later and I purchased the car back after Tim put a lot of hard work and great parts into it. Including his JH and 9a combo out of his 85 that he wrecked just before buying mine. Once the weather got warm I jumped into getting new fuel and brake lines on the car. Along with wiring up the motor and getting it to run.
I ran into a few issues so I didn't get the car out very often. And at one point I had it put in a second storage unit that the landlord was loaning me. I was dumb and didn't have a lock on the unit, and the battery got stolen. The bastids that stole the battery CUT the cables and accesory wires that run off the battery. This winter at work we had a Yellow top Opitima come back as a used battery. I snapped it up to install in the roc this spring.
So Saturday morning I began to rewire the battery cables and get the car ready for the road. Within a few hrs I was able to turn the key and here my baby fire back up after way too long.
Today, I decided that I really should have operational rear brakes. Since I have wanted to get rear discs on the car and already have the stub axels and such I removed the small old crusty drum brakes from the rear beam. This week I will be ordering my stainless brake lines and e-brake cables.
