    Default the little red beast!!

So Friday after work Josh (my roomie) and I went over to our storage unit and towed my 82 Scirocco back to the house. This car has a long history with me. An old girlfriend bought this car in Ohio in 2003? and after a long drawn out project the car made its way to Iowa. When our relationship came to a horrid end, she wanted to sell it but I could not let the car go to just anyone, so I bought it from her. Eventually I finally got the engine bay stripped down and cleaned up.

Original plans were to replace the original 1.7L with a 1.8L 10:1 compression motor. Also replace the FF long ratio tranny with the 2H out of my 83 roc I parted several yrs before.

The car sat as a rolling shell for several yrs again. In various places as I moved around the area and did or didn't have room in my storage unit.
Eventually, the day came that I needed to get rid of the car in choice of my Grandpa's 78 Ford F150 that I was buying from my brother.
Tim bought the car from me.

Tim got into a tight spot several months later and I purchased the car back after Tim put a lot of hard work and great parts into it. Including his JH and 9a combo out of his 85 that he wrecked just before buying mine. Once the weather got warm I jumped into getting new fuel and brake lines on the car. Along with wiring up the motor and getting it to run.

I ran into a few issues so I didn't get the car out very often. And at one point I had it put in a second storage unit that the landlord was loaning me. I was dumb and didn't have a lock on the unit, and the battery got stolen. The bastids that stole the battery CUT the cables and accesory wires that run off the battery. This winter at work we had a Yellow top Opitima come back as a used battery. I snapped it up to install in the roc this spring.
So Saturday morning I began to rewire the battery cables and get the car ready for the road. Within a few hrs I was able to turn the key and here my baby fire back up after way too long.
Today, I decided that I really should have operational rear brakes. Since I have wanted to get rear discs on the car and already have the stub axels and such I removed the small old crusty drum brakes from the rear beam. This week I will be ordering my stainless brake lines and e-brake cables.

Cables will be ordered later this week once the bank account is replenished a little from a car sale.

Well, I apparently have neglected this thread!

So I had some drama on the way to Cincy last year. First the tranny started leaking from the input shaft seal. The clutch did last the WHOLE trip though. Only a little bit of slipping once I got back into Iowa on the way home. The other thing was I fried the headlight switch, so I drove with a couple pieces of speaker wire as my light "switch."

Got home and changed trannies and axles as I went from a 9A to a 2H. Drove the car to work the next day and it left a puddle of fluid on the ground. Gear OIL!! Yup, by the time I got home that night the replacement clutch was slipping AGAIN. A used disc so no huge loss, but annoying! It soon went into storage again.

Well, last week I got another replacement disc (new) and seals and such. Got the car to my buddy's place and pulled the tranny. Only to find that it had SMS! DAMN IT!! I was able to source another tranny with 90mm flanges the next day. So that will be going back in the car.

I have to say even with a smoking clutch, an annoying oil buzzer from my hi press sensor being stupid, and horribly dirty, this little car put the biggest smile on my face!!! And nothing was gonna take that away. I'm still smiling.

So my then gf, now fiance, was rather upset when I put this car up for sale. Well, the car won the battle for her. This will become her toy once she learns to drive it. She seems kind of excited, probably will be more so once she gets to drive it! So, I'm keeping this little red beast! But the MK1 is not going away either! Thats MY toy!!
