Default Off the shelf S/C kits

    Hi,

I'm relatively new on here, and I'm from the UK. It seems turbo and supercharger conversions are a lot more popular over there than this side of the water.

I'm interested in Turbo/Supercharger kits that are available off the shelf for DIY fitment over there, for 1.8 and 2.0 8v N/A engines, as I know of a few people over here who are interested in doing something similar.

There's pretty much nothing available over here as far as I'm aware, bar a few specialists that do the conversions in house, and charge a fortune to do so.

    Any info is gratefully received!

    Cheers

    Tom

    this is for your convertible?

    with a counterflow head right?

there aren't many people (that i've read or heard of) doing forced induction on those motors. SCI Chad's dad has a Callaway kitted cabriolet which is a turbo'd counterflow 8v. really rare parts, hard to find.

if you swapped to a crossflow head there are many more options. Dasveedub greg has a neuspeed supercharger on his mk3 jetta 8v and he seems to like it alot.

for the older 1.8's i know bahnbrenner makes a lysholm kit, the mk3 2.0's have the popular neuspeed as well and bahnbrenner chargers. Check them out, not sure what engine you have this in mind for.

If you're looking to go the turbo route, you *can* use an exhaust manifold and turbo from a 1.6 turbodiesel.

I heard some not so great things about those anyways, reliability wise.

I have the 2.0 ABA motor with a neuspeed supercharger. It's a fun reliable forced induction kit, may not be the best power making kit but its dead reliable.

Keep in mind that anything you buy that is US-spec is going to tuned for US gas. Although I've heard Jeff from C2 Motorsports has done some remote tunes for a couple guys in your area and Scandinavia.

Kinetic makes a mk3 8v turbo kit, although it probably costs more than if you did a DIY kit: http://www.kineticmotorsport.com/cat...2_0L-98-1.html. No personal experience with that kit, but I've been running their VR kit for over 2 years now without a hitch.

Cheers guys, that's a big help.

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who has a Mk3 2.0 8v GTi. He's weighing up doing a VR conversion, or charging the engine he's got, in terms of price, power, reliability, ease of conversion etc.

As far as I know in the UK the early Mk4 2.0 GTi's or 2.0 new Beetles have crossflow heads, which I think are similar in spec to the ones you guys get over there, so I presume the kits would work.
