How aggressive is the polish? That's going to dictate the pad.

I have good luck with the white and green versions of these, and you can get multiples of the same one. Well, depending on the compounds of course.

Yes, get a variety of lake country pads like he linked to. The CCS ones are the best IMHO.

None of those things are going to have any real "cut" to them...using a black pad to put those on will be fine.

    Do you have anything else?

What do you guys recommend for a single stage paint that has a lot of rock chips and deep scratches? I am not trying to make my caddy look super nice, I just want to bring the true color back since it looks extremely faded right now. Or with as many rock chips and scratches (Original owner used it as a work truck for 15 years) am I just screwed until I do a full respray?

XMT 360 is a good one.

I actually used 3M cleaner wax on my 86 until I fount out about the XMT.

I guess it depends how bad it is.

This is what I am talking about. Also I don't want to mess up the stripes on the truck either. Am I pretty much restricted to hand waxing?

There is no polish in world that will replace paint.

I am not trying to replace paint. I get that isn't an option. I am just want to make it less faded. It seems that many people with 30 year old single stage paint that is faded can polish it and bring some of the color out more. I know my paint is eff'd. I just wish it was closer to the original LE1N.

    I forgot the smiley.

You could probably do the majority of it with a buffer, then go to hand around the stickers. You can get the 3M stuff at NAPA. Nice bang for the buck.

An orbital isn't going to rip paint off around rock chips and what not is it? Also would clay baring even be a good idea? It worked wonders on my blue MK4 for tree sap and just cleaning up the clear.

Sorry for my ignorance. I have never really been big into caring about paint.

    Eh, probably not.

Yeah, A clay bar would be good too probably. Wash it a couple times, clay, wash again, then buff.
