    Default disintegrating rubber on radio?

today when i got into my car i went to turn the radio down and the knob melted right in my hands. To be clear it wasn't melted by heat but similar to the way my Grandma's Audi A4 melted from the sea salt down in florida. It was tacky but after driving for a bit it seemed to solidify a bit.

has anyone else had this happen on a realitively new car (about 10 years old). I really don't want to replace the radio yet but i don't have steering wheel volume controls...

I would assume it's just a poor formulated compound and that it was bound to happen eventually

maybe somebody sells just knobs? I'm fairly certain I've seen radio knobs for sale someplace. Maybe, dare I say it, ECS?

I wonder if they just made the knob completely out of that soft touch crap VW puts on everything. lol.

I'm sure it would be much cheaper at a yard.

probably but if that's all you're going to a yard to get it probably wouldn't pay in st cloud. I'm fairly certain there wouldn't be shit for minis in the local yards. Worth a few phone calls though!

Many of my cars have done this. Its actually not really melting, but rather it is due to moisture in the air combining with the oils/grease/dirt that has built up on your knobs.

Clean the knobs off with some nice cleaners and you should be good to go.

radio codes are a bitch, just saying.

If it really bothers me i'll probably just replace the knob with a vinyl cap

    one of these knobs?

$99 for the whole radio. Not sure if they would part a knob... probably not.
