i think its funny that "car guys" get there panties all twisted up at the mere mention of this car.
its a fucking cool car, any way you cut it.
i think they are threatened by cars like this personally.

Of course you believe your belief system is superior or you wouldn't subscribe to it. Stop the late 90's "everything's cool, man" BS.
You can believe what you believe. I can believe what I believe. I'm not the one who made a post calling out people. You did. You don't want to start shit? Stop poking. Clearly you like this kind of thing.
I think that is because most of us don't want to see the traditional combustion engine vehicle die off. Which it will eventually, it is just a matter of time. "Greener" vehicles are a great idea and I am all for the advancement away from fossil fuels but I will still be sad if I live to see a day when there are no longer combustion engine vehicles on the road.
there will still be plenty of us wrenching on our old machines. like the horse gave way to the car, but people still ride and keep horses do they not? people still love horses, and they are still competitions and enthusiast groups.
we will however no longer be the smug car guy that everyone at work asks us what we think when they are looking for a car.
darn.
personally i see it as a good thing. i couldn't be happier to have the people who only use a car to get from point A to point B out of there cars and into something else. get them off the roads ... more for me.
Of course. But I'm also an Electrical Engineer. So eventually they'll start pushing the electrical system designs. And it'll be cool.
I got into cars because you can modify them. The same reason I love buying a fixer upper house and modifying PCs and Android devices. It's a personality trait. I bet a lot of members of this club took stuff apart to see how it worked when they were young. I did. It's not some particular quality about internal combustion.
Others may have other reasons.
I am sure there will be but my biggest concern is fuel. If there is no longer a need for gas or diesel, then what will happen? Will prices for it sky rocket due to the cost of production when there is minimal need? Will the government start new regulations that make IC vehicles illegal to drive on the street? These are the things that worry me. But at the same time I know that with the evolution of the automobile, there will still be cool things I like.
And I do really like the Volt. If I could afford one, I would own one. But I am also big into tech stuff so things like the Volt intrigue me.
They'll ban the production and new-sale of ICE vehicles but I'm sure they'll still be legal to drive, if only with collector plates. In 20 years we'll probably have algae bio-engineered to produce synthetic gasoline... it will be expensive, but at least we won't have to worry about it running out.
Of course driving them could turn into something similar to the no-smoking laws in place now. Hopefully not, but perhaps.
If prices get too high someone will capitalize on it to start a new mine or build a new refinery. Price works fantastically as a communication device. The only concern is over the ways in which the price signal is distorted. Say tax incentives or subsidization.
I think it's more likely that they'll be banned because they lack the controls that future cars will have that will allow them to modulate traffic flows, prevent accidents automatically, etc. We may be one day relegated to strapping them to a trailer to drive them to a track day.
