    Default Touareg?

The woman is looking to trade in her truck and we went and test drove the vw touareg yesterday. What are people's thoughts on it? the truck drove really well and was much more refined than the Tiguan we drove right before it. I also don't see the logical reasoning in buying a 37K tiguan.. just seems silly

I have researched moderately online and the touareg seems to be getting pretty good results but I have never had direct experience with the 3.6 FSI (hybrid $ is ridic and we don't want diesel). The touareg seemed a little sluggish but better than the truck she currently has and for what she needs it is fine

sorry this is just blabbering but i wanted to get people's opinions. I really like the truck and it seems to check off all of the right boxes

Also, Luther VW - I am new to the area but there dont seem to be many dealerships around here. Is Westside VW fair?

    Thanks ya'll

I saw them when I bought my TDI recently.

What do you need a full-size SUV for? Kids, towing...? What are you replacing?

My family has had an '04 followed by an '07 Touareg. They both had the 4.2 V8 with air suspension. From my experience, they were fantastic SUV's! We used them for towing a 22' race trailer, long trips, daily driving, everything. One major positive factor was how well they drive. You don't feel like you're driving a bigger vehicle - my Mom and girlfriend both felt very comfortable driving them. I suppose this can be taken as a bit of a downside since it is on the smaller side for an SUV. As far as the cu. ft. cargo space I believe it is VERY close to the same as a Passat Wagon.

Ironically, I've been flirting with the idea of trading my A4 in on a CPO V6 Touareg. A lot of the stuff I like to do out here in CO requires a bit more off-road capability and room to haul friends and gear around.

the touareg will replace the ML she has now. It's a good truck and I really like it. However its off the warranty now and stupid shit is breaking. For instance, the center console won't work - it just wont open - and the mirror cover keeps falling off. No major issues but it's not going down the right path. Random point: but how can you put bolts on the wheels and bumper on a Merc that rust? it's beyond me.

(Edit: I left the sunroof open a couple years back and it rained heavily. had to get a new fuse box and interior carpeting so the avoidance of electrical issues to come is on my mind...)

She doesn't want a Q5 so thats not a possibility. I have a vw and love it and since I got it she has begun to love them as well. She's also under the impression she needs a full size SUV for the winter so wte. it is what it is. No american and I dislike the lexus suv.

I won't be towing anything around so i'm gonna work on that $515 tow hitch these come with haha

The only way I'd buy another big SUV is if it was a diesel or I needed it for towing. But that's me.

If it can't be an American SUV and it can't be diesel, the Touareg and the X5 would definitely be worth a look. Also, I know you weren't happy with your MB but the new models are quite a bit better than the previous generation.

thanks for the comments. I might go out and give the diesel a go just to see how it drives but given the low annual mileage the truck will be doing it's hard to validate the 3K price difference

John, I'm glad your family liked yours and bailey thanks for that dealer. is that where you got yours?

I like the X5 a lot but she wants an SUV that is a little more low-key being that she just started a job at a HS... silly women

I've spent some time in and driving a V10 TDI Touareg. Nice ride, comfy, nice interior, very good MPGs (when not towing) and they really scoot!

They seem to have a bit of a reputation for being a needy in the maintenance department, but since I don't own one I can't say how true that is. If I actually felt like spending some good scratch on an SUV (which I don't) a TDI Touareg or TDI Cayenne would be near the top.

Why do you feel like you have to spend $37k on a tiguan when there are plenty around $20k? or do you require brand new vehicles?

I've only ridden in both the toureg and tiguan and enjoyed them both. A friend's v8 toureg just had it's propshaft self-dissasemble and fall apart. bummer as it's a couple thousand miles past the warranty and only been driven by a responsible woman the majority of it's life. isolated incident probably. shitty none the less.
