I am going to drive my MK1 Jetta Coupe with the 1.8t in it out to H20. I am possibly looking to have a co-pilot if I find the right person as it would make the trip cheaper for myself.
I will be leaving Sept. 24th, Monday before the show at 6am and plan to drive south to avoid Chicago, and through Iowa with a stop at Antique Archaeology about lunchtime. Planning on driving 5 more hours after that and stopping for the night. Camping if I am by myself, motel/ hotel if co-pilot doesn't want to camp and will split 50/50.
Plan to arrive in Ocean City on Wednesday and take a nice easy drive over Tuesday and Wednesday to get there.
I have a place to stay if I go by myself, otherwise the co-pilot would have to split a room with me in Ocean City for Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights.
Sunday is the show and we will be leaving promptly at 3 just before the show ends. I plan on driving back in a caravan with one other friend and we will most likely drive straight through except for some nap time in the cars when we get tired.
If you have the time and money, are older than 21 with a valid drivers license you may apply within. Beware, if you apply, I will then be checking your forum posts to determine duechebag status. If not DB, then we can get together and talk about logistics.
It will be about 3000 miles in a MK1 without A/C on coils that bounce more than I would care to admit. We will get at least 30mpg, so that's 100 gallons of gas at $4 a gallons. $400/2 people is $200 per person in gas alone for this trip. 4 nights hotel in OC will be another $200 per person. With food and entertainment you should expect to bring a total of about $1000. If this breaks the bank, don't waste my time.
I promise it will be a blast, and my car is as reliable as I believe I can make it. I even have a modified spare oil pan, full size spare and a few misc. spares to bring in case of epic fail.
Pics of the beast. If you are nice, I may let you use the Bat phone.
