Default Feeler: Looking for a co-pilot out to H20. Must have the time and the dime 9/24-10/1

I am going to drive my MK1 Jetta Coupe with the 1.8t in it out to H20. I am possibly looking to have a co-pilot if I find the right person as it would make the trip cheaper for myself.

I will be leaving Sept. 24th, Monday before the show at 6am and plan to drive south to avoid Chicago, and through Iowa with a stop at Antique Archaeology about lunchtime. Planning on driving 5 more hours after that and stopping for the night. Camping if I am by myself, motel/ hotel if co-pilot doesn't want to camp and will split 50/50.

Plan to arrive in Ocean City on Wednesday and take a nice easy drive over Tuesday and Wednesday to get there.

I have a place to stay if I go by myself, otherwise the co-pilot would have to split a room with me in Ocean City for Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights.

Sunday is the show and we will be leaving promptly at 3 just before the show ends. I plan on driving back in a caravan with one other friend and we will most likely drive straight through except for some nap time in the cars when we get tired.

If you have the time and money, are older than 21 with a valid drivers license you may apply within. Beware, if you apply, I will then be checking your forum posts to determine duechebag status. If not DB, then we can get together and talk about logistics.

It will be about 3000 miles in a MK1 without A/C on coils that bounce more than I would care to admit. We will get at least 30mpg, so that's 100 gallons of gas at $4 a gallons. $400/2 people is $200 per person in gas alone for this trip. 4 nights hotel in OC will be another $200 per person. With food and entertainment you should expect to bring a total of about $1000. If this breaks the bank, don't waste my time.

I promise it will be a blast, and my car is as reliable as I believe I can make it. I even have a modified spare oil pan, full size spare and a few misc. spares to bring in case of epic fail.

Pics of the beast. If you are nice, I may let you use the Bat phone.

Airfare straight into Salisbury, MD was only $327 round-trip. Kinda cheap.

Wow, that rocks. I gotta have my car there this year, as it may be my last chance for everything to work out like it is. See you there.

Already drove to SOWO this year. Need to fly to H2Oi because I want to travel to Europe *next* year and PTO accrual for next FY starts 9/23 I believe. I need all I can get.

Kris, when's the last time you drove to H2Oi?

Special enough to get asked personally. I thought about asking you a week ago and then remembered again when I saw you post your stuff for sale. I have asked about 5 of my close VW friends, none of which want to take this much time off. flippinvw was going to drive, but I want to take more time than he is capable of. Kris has a wedding to shoot, Chad at SCI has a family and a business to run, Pat Casanova has a work commitment and Ryan Heidcamp doesn't want to take that long off either.

I put this up as a last resort. I would much rather have somebody I know come with. Sorry if you feel less special after seeing this, I was just hoping there was somebody that was maybe looking for a ride out.

I'll close this thread tomorrow if you tell me you can come once you check with work. Tomorrow is the 2 week notice most employers would require. I know it may be different if you travel for work though.

i did this for SOWO this year. could get enough time off work to make the drive, so i flew to atlanta and rented a car for $350 total.

the drive is all part of the journey and i missed that fun of the trip. but 2 hr 45 min flight vs. 16 hr drive w/o A/C wasn't exactly bad either.
