I'll get about 12-13mpg calculated average at fillups pulling my jeep out to Utah, through the mountains and such. but that's pretty much entirely highway miles... so, maybe see what your mileage was at the fill, maybe the scanguage isn't properly calibrated to the truck yet? idk... but I flat tow my jeep without a trailer, so i'm only pulling the weight of the jeep and not a trailer. so you're probably getting good mileage now that i think about it...
cool story, i know
Katie had to take the truck to New Ulm the other day, got 31.5mpg (unloaded). I thought she was lying but both the scangauge and dash computer were about the same, over 30. Not sure if there is a glitch on the software or scangauge not calibrated properly as we didn't check on the fillup. Scangauge has seemed to be accurate in the past while towing!

Maybe we need to get Sven out to do an audit on our aerodynamics.
It made me think of this article I saw in a diesel truck magazine a long time ago, but couldn't find it till now:

Update on how she's doing?
if you're doing alot of towing I would upgrade the tranny pan, I did a Magtech one and it helped mine with plowing

Truck has been perfect, biggest complaint is the ride quality while towing a bumper pull. Looking to upgrade to a 5th wheel probably at the end of this season.
We put on a little over 4,000 miles (bought in June) and it's been sitting in my garage since October. I take it to work about once a month so I was able to empty out the summer diesel to fillup with the winter stuff. About 70% of those miles have been hooked to a big ass trailer with no issue.
I was thinking of doing some upgrades like a trans pan and even larger/finned rear diff cover but decided against it and am just going to keep up on the fluid changes. We do have a scangauge and I have been watching all of the fluid temps and they've been great. The trans temp stays nice and low even while towing.
Although maybe someone can answer me this - if the truck sits for a few days+ and then I start it, it puffs out quite a bit of (whitish) smoke. Is this normal or a sign of something? Doesn't happen if you are driving it often. Not up on if this is a common diesel thing or what.
That's pretty standard it's usually a moisture buildup atleast that's what my truck is, try having someone stand behind it and see if they can smell anything. When the truck is really cold it will puff a bit of blue smoke too right after start up from what I have seen, my truck doesn't do it but I have seen/heard of others doing it.

It's definitely a sweet(ish) smell - easy enough to smell if you start it in the garage. Can't tell maybe it's oil getting through the valve guides and pooling? Or possible coolant somewhere/how.
Could be your EGR? I wouldn't know without seeing it, on the 6.0 there is so much stuff going everywhere. I would recommend if you were going to bring it to any dealer bring it to Morries Minnetonka Ford and request Jeff as a tech just to look it over, he did all my bulletproofing on my truck and has done over 180 of them.
-Chris
All the EGR / oil cooler stuff was done ~30k miles ago, although that doesn't mean it isn't coming back to be a problem.
