School me on sportbikes

My brother-in-law has an '03 SV650 with M4 exhaust. It sounds really nice. The '03 has a few parts that are not interchangeable with other years from what he told me.

I believe the subframe and maybe gas tank are specific to 2003. Engine, rest of chassis and suspension is same.

If they're dead reliable, why can you walk him through an engine rebuild?

I race them and they will eventually need rebuilds.

Well count me jealous. We just put some Pirelli Angels on his bike this weekend. Those things sure are sticky! Is it true SV650s are known for ripping through tires in <10k? Or is my 1983 CB1000c 20k+ on Shinko 230s/Dunlop E3s a poor reference point?

They aren't any harder on tires than any other bike of similar power/weight. If you put a sport tire on, expect to get sport tire life (<10k usually). If you want longer life you need to jump to a sport touring tire.

If it makes you feel better the race tires we use last ~100 miles.

I forgot about this thread! I ended up getting an 06 SV650S with 12K for $3K through a friend of a friend here in town.



And it has a clean title! No pics yet though, been too busy out enjoying it to remember to take any shots lol.
