That head is hydro and 12mm.
Assuming the engine is original to the car, there is a 99.9% chance that anything diesel 85 and on will be a hydro/12mm. I've read of that 0.01% where an 85 model had...

How many tires is this guy buying? I messaged him yesterday morning about a set I have as well...
I'm looking for:
100mm Front spindles/hubs/brakes
100mm axles
Master Cylinder/booster
The final goal would be to re-wire everything entirely, but for now it does the job.
I don't plan on changing the dash itself as the beat up nature fits the overall state of the truck.
65 Amps of fury!!
This seems like a popular swap as of late. I was going to hold off until I was further along with the project and had some cool photos to show, but I figured some might like reading about what I'm...
You might not need this info any more since you're looking to sell, but here are the differences:
Relay Lever (Part 11 in above diagram)
171 711 163 D (4 Speed)
171 711 163 E (5 Speed)
...
I'm going from memory here, but I looked it all up in ETKA once and I think what's different between 4 and 5 speed is:
All linkages on transmission.
Relay lever (or maybe it's the bracket holding...
Outside of the city. I'm having my M-TDI head built/ported/polished/etc by a very reputable machinist out west of the metro for well under half that.
You don't -need- them. TD injectors were spec'd at a higher pop pressure and the engine was spec'd for a higher static timing number to help the fuel atomize better with boost.
I don't think...
Looks like it's a from a MK2, so it's got hydraulic lifters...
I agree. Sounds tired if it has to crank that long in the cold. Even with good compression, glow plugs, no air leaks, etc, these...
Just a little terminology correction...
You are actually adjusting the static timing when moving the pump. This timing value stays the same once the pump mounting bolts are tightened back up...
If this is the trans they are going to use, it would put RPMs just a hair under 2000 @ 70 mph and a hair above 2200 RPM @ 80 MPH. That's nearly identical to what my MKIV TDI with a 'tall' 5th gear in...
Then why type anything at all? I'm merely trying to discuss this, not have people allude to their super secret tribal knowledge about automatic transmissions.
Looks like the 'no reverse' was...
We aren't talking about MKIV TDIs with an 01m here. The DSG TDIs get nearly identical MPG numbers to their manual counterparts. Your argument is rather moot.
GM also has a better reputation at...
TD should have had a 200mm clutch from the factory. NA was 190mm I believe. You can upgrade to a 210mm clutch/flywheel for added grip.
Sounds like a pretty decent options list.
Where is all this hate on the automatic coming from? I could care less about rowing through the gears in a daily commuter. If they are claiming 42 MPG...

I've had nothing but great experiences at Heimies.
Chill out antsy pants.
Hopefully they bore it to the right spec for free since they had no paperwork from when you were there the first time (very strange).
