Let it Snow
Whether you like it or not, ‘tis the season
By: Nolan Gherity

You hear someone in class whisper it. You see your classmates looking out the window. It’s snowing. Depending on who you are, this may be a good or bad thing. For the winter sport enthusiasts, it’s the best thing.

While we haven’t gotten any substantial snowfall here yet, it is coming. Your yard remains green, but a look online at Hyland’s web cam reveals that their hills are already partially white. Local snowboard/ ski destinations Hyland Ski and Snowboard (HSSA) and Buck Hill have both began producing artificial snow. The snowmaking began at the beginning of November, and will continue whenever possible. This “snow” will create a perfect base for when the actually snow falls, and will allow the resorts to open much earlier.

This year, both Hyland and Buck Hill will offer new features to the skiers and snowboarders, on the hill and off. Hyland updated many things last season, including the addition of a four-person chairlift, so their changes for this year are miniscule. They will be altering the terrain park setup to keep things fresh for the riders. Other than that the hill setup will be the same as last year. There will also be additions to the chalet, to better accommodate guests. Buck hill recently reshaped the northern side of their hill, including the addition of a four-person chairlift. They also updated their snowmaking devices.

As always, both hills will offer the traditional runs. There are the small hills for the beginners, and a full range of hills for every skill level in between. As mentioned before, both Hyland and Buck Hill offer a terrain park featuring jumps, rails, and boxes. Aside from the general features, the hills each offer additional services. Hyland has a Nordic skiing complex on site, and offers cross-country skiing on the bottom of the hill. Buck Hill has a family friendly snow tubing set up right along with the skiing, one of few in this area.

Well you’re in high school now. Time to take on a lot of new responsibility and make new choices. You want to go out with friends and other fun things. Problem is, to participate in these activities you’ll need money. If you haven’t already, it’s probably time to get your first job. Luckily, there are many options in the Chanhassen/ Chaska area for work.

LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL
Josh is the best.;) Good luck with your paper Nolan.
