Well I never thought I'd ever purchase a brand new vehicle, but here is my new wagon. Base package, 6mt with tan interior. Hitch added immediately, and now just racking on the miles. Between the GF and I we put on around 60k a year. Her with a F-150 and this will replace my Cherokee. This will be the new road tripping light hauling machine. Not even 1,500 on yet but the MFI claims 28.5 mpg towing 2 bikes and best without was 48.5. Avg speed 63 for both trips on ideal smooth flat roads. Otherwise high 30's/low 40's for the work commute. These are probably 1-3 mpg high off the MFI, but I guess this can be adjusted to be more accurate. Pretty optimistic for full break in and mods! 6th gear only churns 2k at 75 mph, and this great tranny for rowing through the gears again.
I'm jealous of veedubmechanics lights, so those might be next on the upgrade list and probably roof racks. Here she is

Plenty of room for camping/fishing gear and dags.

Nice, white is my favorite color and you got the 6spd as well. I an excited to see what performance mods come in the near future as more people keep buying these. I know a few turbo kits are in development. Who will be the first on EW to buy one?

I've had a '01 ALH that I've done over 800 on a tank. That one was lightly modded to 145hp/245ftlbs at the wheels. I'm pretty content with the current power of the wagon, but I can see chipping and a dpf delete further down the road. First will be lighting and maybe audio upgrades. The GF offered last night to pick up the tab for HID upgrades as we both often travel to very remote heavily deer populated areas. I also have some "off-road" lighting I was thinking about doing a stealth install...

I told my wife She should be happy to see 600 mi on a tank. That means one fill up/week

Well almost to 5k already. So far the wagon has been great. The mileage has been better than expected for not being broken in. My only complaint is the MFI avg MPG is way off, and the rear is a little soft. On trips to Brainerd and back (avg 55 on MFI) I've seen 53mpg at best. Real mpg 48. No real complaints but that isn't even close. Still doing around 28 towing, and it tows way better than I expected it would. A large chunk of my miles have been with a trailer. I still need to find some real bag helper springs. Everything I've found has been on backorder. My short commute generally puts me around 36mpg.
Passing power even in 6th gear is acceptable. I can't wait to do some mods, but those will be 1-2 years out at least. The power and efficiency increases from tuning and dpf removal are really tempting. People claim 4-6 mpg with delete and up to 300 ft/lbs. Sign me up!

Let me know when you're interested in that 300ft-lbs, I'll be tuning a DPF delete car in a week or so :)
You don't need to delete the DPF to run a Stage 2, its for the extra mileage as well as other things
Your real MPG you claim, is that tank mileage or your estimate of highway mileage?
Have you considered a small drop with some stiffer springs?

OT question: What kind of mileage did you get with your Cherokee? Manual or Auto? 4cyl or 6cyl?

I can actually answer most of those since I'm sitting at work killing time.
Auto. 6Cyl 4.0l.
He consistently gets better mileage then my Cherokee. I think 23-25 avg highway.

Wow, that's better than I thought it would be. I need to get another DD. I've been going back and forth, trying to decide if I want to buy a Cherokee Classic, an older diesel car or something basic like a an old Jetta, Honda, etc.
The OP's TDI would be perfect but, I don't want to be stuck with payments for years & years.

Calculated tank. The few times I've gotten 48 are pretty much ideal conditions. Flat, 55mph roads, no cargo. I don't drive it easy though. Usually 5-10 over, and not shy to pass. Otherwise my usual fill up is around 42. Seen down to 36 depending on the week. My standard commute is 7 miles, but I do a lot other highway driving. So my mileage has a pretty steep swing. A couple of these 40 degree mornings, it barely hit 190 temp before I got to work!
I'd love to have some drop, but the ball height for towing is already really low. I'd prefer quick adjust air helper springs. Also those are only $80 if I can find a set in stock.

24 was always tops, and that is on similar conditions to above. Most of the time my average was around 18-20.

Ha, not low enough until you have to back up onto 2x4's and still have difficulty reaching the tongue of the trailer

Bought a new 2013 jetta tdi 6 speed in november of 2012. White with black interior. No complaints. Like to hear of the turbo kits but i'm not sure I need more power. This jetta is quick.
