Awesome. Yeah, I *might* need a new (1.8T) pump, I'm not sure. I lost my PS fluid, presumably due to a bad line. Added some fluid, and that leaked out too. In the process of doing some driving without PS fluid I think I borked the pump - now when I rev the engine something makes a horrible sound - but since I have not had a chance to look into it, it could be anything belt driven I guess. Adding more PS fluid did not quiet it down. The PS Pump seems like the logical guess since I know the fluid drained.

I didn't think the pump would fail so quickly without fluid.... but what do I know?

How long did you drive without fluid for? When my rack went back I had to drive it about 25 miles without fluid and my pump was still fine after I installed a new rack and filled it back up. Plus when my rack went bad, my pump constantly made noise even before it started pissing fluid on the ground (the seal on my driver's side went back and then the inside started to corrode and eventually seized up)
