Hey guys!
October 7, 8 & 9
Hay Creek Valley Campground
http://haycreekvalley.com/
Campers can arrive Friday in the early afternoon and stay until Sunday Evening!
Friday: Camping
Saturday: Fall Tour & Cook Out & Hamerschlogen & Use your imagination
Sunday: TBD, Show? Take Asprin?
The fall tour is a laid back cruise through some of the most beautiful roads in the midwest.
This year's route is about 150 miles from the campsite, into the woods, and back to campsite. There are 2 stops planned, the first of which is about halfway and at a gas station. We'll begin assembling on Saturday at 1pm, with a plan to depart about 1:30pm. I'm not sure of the final drive time, but we should be back to camp around 5:30pm. Sunset is at 6:40pm, so that should give us time to get the campfires going, or for those who have to depart to pack up with a little light left! Let me know if you have more questions!
$15 for Camping ALL WEEKEND if you pre-register. (pre-registration opening soon)
$25 Day of Registration
We've got the whole camp section to ourselves! The lots will be no problem for low cars.
No food will be provided, you guys are on your own there. If anyone forgets there is a saloon with some decent food near the campsites. There is a clean bathroom.
Its possible we'll have a keg. Its possible you can probably bring your own.
This is more or less what we have:

Yahoooo
Last year we had loaded up the coolers with sodas, beer, grilling supplies, smores stuff, etc! There was lots of good grilling and roasting and some marshmallow burning, if I recall. And what were those enclosed campfire sandwiches again? I can't recall if there was cheese or other in them. I'll prbably bring my little gas fired camping stove to make breakfast on again - worked out perfectly as a Perkins alternative.

Only thing we didn't have last year was lights to keep us from tripping over tent tie downs.
Dave, I would consider the mini grill. If I recall, the campsites all have their own firepit, but there is no grill rack situation. Good for tin foil pouches, but no so much for burgers or dogs.

What happened to making people prepay?
Last year a bunch of people flaked out and that sort of sucked for the club to have pay the cost of the people flaking out in my mind. I just don't want to see that happen again.
I'll probably come down for Friday night or Saturday, but have a commitment on Saturday night.

I feel like I'm inviting myself & GF here, but think this would be really cool to attend. I feel ignorant at times that I can only 'chat' with the group at your annual event in june, when really I'd like to just crack open a beer & hang out with fellow enthusiasts.
I'm not even sure I can make it, but figure it only helps out the club if I prepay anyway. I have no problem supporting EW, so when should I do this by? also, whats the closest grocery store to the camping site so I can just buy all my stuff there rather than drag it from home?
would appreciate someone's answer here. thanks.
BimmerTim
08-23-2011, 10:45 AM
You can come down and hang out, even with a Miata. haha. No one will hate for it.
Redwing is pretty close to the campground, so there really is no need to bring stuff all the way from home.

I am pretty close to having a GREAT drive route nailed down for our group this fall! I plan to have a souvenir map to give out to at least all the pre-registrants on the day of drive. (Late comers, you get a photocopy ;)
I also want to try doing a email/phone push of an online route map - for those of you drivers and navigators wanting to follow along on your device, I salute your nerdiness! Map lovers unite! If you are interested in getting that electronic map push just before the drive, PM me your info. I'm not saying it's gonna work, but I want to try it out.

I like that we'll all have a copy of the route this year instead of having to guess where we are going if we get behind for some reason. Amy and I had a pretty good drive last year after we lost the group, but it would be nice to keep with the group the whole time this year. Is there a plan to stop and eat somewhere after the drive or will it end back at the camp?
Matt and I have decided that we are instituting a "no man (or woman) left behind" policy. I am definitely planning in a few breaks (bio break with real bathrooms - for my lady friends!), a photo op / stretch break, and also hoping to end at a dinner place that is near the camp.

Pete, I think you should bring your Dad. ;) I believe the Fall tour should be more of a cruise, and not a sprint. Maps will be provided, and the group tour will be at a pace where the great fall colors and countryside of Wisconsin can be enjoyed without white knuckles. Not to say we don't like the fun twisties, but a successful tour to me is one where everyone can enjoy the drive without finding their personal limit.

How many people are bringing their lady counterparts? I was thinking about bringing my gf and don't want to bore her to death listening to me talk about cars.
Also is someone bringing bag toss?

So I used this and the Amazon deal as an excuse to get a Go Pro. My thought is if you have one, bring it. I'm hoping to get enough footage to put a little Campwerks video together if people would be into that? Not just of the drive, but of the whole experience thing.

Question: I am traveling almost 600 mi to be there...and looking to make the best out of the trip. I have a XR50 pit bike that I would like to bring. Are there any trails in the area that allows them? If so, any one with a bike want to join? I dont plan on speeding around the camp on this.

i am not looking forward to telling kara about this...
When do you think the fall drive will be over. It looks like I have a commitment Sat night back in the cities.
I think the goal will be 5 or 6 pm latest. Not sure when we plan to start off, but it isn't intended as an epically long loop. I can't recall what time we started last year. I will know better times after Sept 30th, and will advise!
Update on Fall Tour - lots of people have been asking about times, etc. Here is the plan as of now:
This year's route is about 150 miles from the campsite, into the woods, and back to campsite. There are 2 stops planned, the first of which is about halfway and at a gas station. We'll begin assembling on Saturday at 1pm, with a plan to depart about 1:30pm. I'm not sure of the final drive time, but we should be back to camp around 5:30pm. Sunset is at 6:40pm, so that should give us time to get the campfires going, or for those who have to depart to pack up with a little light left! Let me know if you have more questions!

this isn't a full throttle drive. you should be fine.
I have called the station a couple of times to try to figure out what they sell, but I guess I should not be surprised that the clerks have NO CLUE about the products they sell the most of. I plan to personally check what they have when I pre-drive the route, and yes I will change the stop location if I don't like what they have. Alternately, I can find you E85 at a different close place.
...exactly how many gallons would you have to "bring along" otherwise?? ;)
337_kid
09-24-2011, 06:28 PM
I haven't quite figured out what my mpg is yet. It sure is thirstier than before, no doubt. I was planning on looking at all my E85 literature and figuring out spots I can stop on the way down there so I'll be "full" for the drive this week.
Maybe I misread. If it's like 150 round trip and I don't make it then there's something wrong with my car. lol. It just read like it was 150 mi there and 150mi back. I would need fuel if it was the later.
sounds like you'll make it round trip then. Might be good to know some options in Red Wing though, as a pre-fuel-up option. I can look into that a bit too, but let me know if you find out more!

I'll take a look over this weekend. I doubt it will be a problem, I was planning on finding a place close to the campground anyways. Holidays carry E85 a lot of places around the state.

So I'd like to create a 3-4 minute video of Campwerks and the experience. I know some of you have Go Pros. If you're willing to help shoot some footage, it'd be awesome if you could bring em for the cruise. I've got a video camera and some lens on reserve from school for some general/stationary shots. I'm not a film major, but have been wanting to do something like this for a while. Hopefully others going will be excited about some footage coming out of this.

I would be willing to give it a shot, I've just never used one before. I checked out a video camera I've used before at school since I knew I'd know how to use it. And I'm able to check out some lenses for it as well. Up to you if you want to pack it, if you do, I'll give it a shot. Otherwise I'll be good with the one from school.
the open road is calling us...
Did the pre-drive today with Matt, and I am hoping this year's route will be a great one. One of the top pick roads is still gravel (sucks, man), so there will be some changes, but we should still have a good loop. Gas Stop has 93 Premium, no word on E86. We made it easily without a refuel, so if all are gassed up the morning of the tour, we should all make it on well under a tank.
If anyone would be so kind as to commit to being the end/last car, I would be very thankful - I'd like to try to maintain some walkie talkie communication, or at least feel confident that I could spot your car at a stop to know we have the whole group! Ponder it and let me know.
Start getting excited about fall colors too! :D

Summit asked the old german lady to sell her stuff at the st paul oktoberfest but since she is gonna be at the new ulm oktoberfest christin is gonna work the st paul one by herself which means she will need a person to give her breaks aka me. If I dont help her she wont get a break from working noon until midnight. Id get paid too by the way. Im still not 100% sure if this is happening yet. Id like to drive down there saturday and hang out for a bit since its only an hour and 15 minute drive basically.
