Nope just worked/saved a lot so I could afford everything :)

Pull up dem pants? You know you like it!

Oh BTW - after Maplewood sent the wrong parts THREE times in a row. I haven't had my car for over 2 weeks. If they get it right this time I'll have it back tomorrow. I hate driving the damn Touareg its no fun.

wow... I haven't updated this for a loooong time.

I've been working on it A LOT over the past couple weeks.

Southbend stage 2 clutch, new PS pump, timing belt, maintenance crap... a few more plans in the works in the next few weeks also.

Current state -

makes me really appreciate my little, simple motors.

why do these have 2 intercoolers? it's one turbo, no? does it just get cooled twice?

I don't know Audis but I bet one is an oil cooler.

John2.0T
04-06-2008, 11:59 PM
yeah - dual side mount intercoolers.

its a very efficient set up... an FMIC definitely is not worth it with the little K03.

Interesting...and duh, I didn't even pay attention to the hoses. ;)

John2.0T
04-07-2008, 12:21 AM
Also... that nice little line in front of the timing belt cover just happens to be the oil line to the turbo.

I tried everything possible to get the rubber hose off of the huge ass flange on the metal side of the line and nothing was working. I have to be creative and try to find clearance to unbolt it from the turbo.

So are you doing the work? Major props if you are! Any idea how much a shop would charge to do it?

I love DIY, I always feel so good when I do it myself.

Yeah, I'm doing it all myself.

I have help when I need it - its currently at Kevin Lichty's shop in Waterloo (he just joined and will be at Eurowerks). I'm renting a spot at his shop to do the work.

Not sure exactly how much a shop would charge but I don't think I want to know. I've already found several Maplewood Audi fuck ups that I was not told about...

Another small update...

Did not do a whole lot on Monday - pulled the TB cover off, new clutch came in and cleaned up the engine bay.

I love new parts. Southbend/DXD TZ Series Stage 2 clutch:

Quick story... my EPC light came on this summer after my little accident. It turns out that Maplewood Audi did not see the cracked intercooler tube on the passenger side after working on it. I brought it in and they proceeded to tell my that my entire P/S intercooler assembly needed to be replaced... a cool $845.... I called bull**** and asked to go see the car. After seeing a cracked intercooler tube and no other problems, I laughed, said "nice try" and told them to replace the tube. They charged me $40 for a new tube.

Well... I guess I paid $40 for a couple wraps of Camoflauge duct tape... I was *pissed* when I saw this.

Wow John. If I saw camo duct tape, I think I'd kill someone. Is there another audi dealership in the area, besides maplewood audi? My dad has been using them a lot on his CPO A4 but I'll certainly encourage him to go elsewhere is there's something reasonable. Have you let them know about this? If they charged you for the tube and gave you duct tape, you've got some serious ammo. That is absolutely outrageous.

The front end is all back together and the car starts well - having some trouble with the clutch unfortunately :(.

With everything together it will go into gear just fine when the car is off... when its running, no dice. The clutch feels solid too. We bled the shit out of it and still no luck.

Sooo I have to drop the tranny again and mess around. Right now I'm thinking southbend sent me the wrong clutch. The throwout bearing looks a bit different than stock but i dont think thats what it is... I'm leaning towards the pressure plate right now.

On a lighter note - new wheels are on the way... here's a teaser :)

I was able to mess around with the tranny and clutch a bit more this weekend.

I took the clutch out and found it a little odd when the clutch disc was stick to the pressure plate.... wtf?!

It turns out that the pins on the pressure plate were slightly bent and off center... definitely causing my problem. It was a bit hard to spot - obviously why I didn't see it in the first place when I put the clutch in originally.

Comparison pics stock:

southbend:

Pretty easy to see how the plate is off center. Looks like southbend will be getting a phone call...

I just crossed 76,500 miles on my A4. I knew it was worth it to do the timing belt last spring.

The brakes have been screaming for an upgrade for quite some time.

Cleaned it up even more for a small car show in Cedar Rapids this weekend... Wheel's off detail using Meg's APC, Meg's QD, and Meg's TD.

My back is hurting after cleaning each wheel thoroughly with DP Wheel Gel followed by Mothers Polish and then applying a coat of DP wheel glaze. Fuck you brake dust.

Nice work John! Car still looks great!

I do wheel well service every spring, makes a huge difference in the looks.

Pads look to be HPS?

What are your thought/impressions of the new pads and lines?

John2.0T
10-07-2008, 12:23 AM
Correct - Hawk HPS pads.

I'm kicking myself for not doing this upgrade sooner. I've known about the improvement in pedal feel, stopping distance and grab but I didn't get around to doing it.

The pedal feel is much shorter and stiffer - exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend this upgrade to anyone!

Still contemplating painting the hood?

yeah definitely...

my lease is up in december - although I am WAY over my lease mileage, I may end up trading it back in and putting it back to stock.

I've been up in the air about it for awhile... if I do that I will probably have a mkI project and a DD (older Audi or mkII). We'll see.
