I really excited for this years F1 season. Its was really nice to see a championship race between more then one or two teams. be interesting to see how Ferrari will respond to the end of last season. Alonso made one hell of a push. Sure he had some help with the mistakes from RB and Mclaren. Ferrari has announced, that they are going to introduce the car in three weeks.

I was really happy to see Vettel win the championship this year. It blows me away that a 23 year old (6 months older than me) is that talented... same with a lot of the younger drivers who race F1.

Can't wait for this year to start!

Hamilton is a douchebag because he's cocky as hell. He is an amazing driver when he is able to put that aside; when he isn't able to do so he drives insanely aggressive. He had pissed his team off multiple times in the 2010 season from comments made while racing, and was almost put in jail after he did a massive doughnut session in the streets following practice in a Mercedes AMG whatever. Hopefully with time all of his negatives will go away and he can prove himself as a legend.

I hope to god the FIA enforces some sort of a baseline onto the newer/slower teams. It is dangerous to the faster drivers at all times, not to mention that the slower teams cannot qualify at thier best potential because they are constantly being blue flagged at least once a lap. I understand that F1 needs newer teams, but when they are 4+ seconds a lap slower than the rest of the field, that's absurd! Especially when formula one usually comes down to the hundreth or even thousandth a second per lap between different manufacturers.

There is truth to that. But football, MX, and NASCAR are a bit different than F1. It's a "gentlemans" racing league. By gentleman I mean be cocky without being a dick. Hamilton is a great driver but is a little immature for my likings.

Also you don't need to defend Hamilton just cuz he looks like Obama, err I mean Cameron :P

I've always liked Hamilton to be honest. He might not drive in a very responsible manner sometimes on the track but he seems like a cool guy. Especially in his interview on Top Gear a few years back and last season when he drove Senna's F1 car. Also, I agree with Cameron on the fact that Senna was not a very responsible driver either on the track. Yet Senna is know as one the greats if not the greatest F1 driver.

except randy moss isn't good. rare moments of brilliance amidst too much attitude, and general lack of effort.

It's fine to be confident. It's fine to be extremely confident. Being overly cocky makes you seem like a prick. (i.e. Moss)

Anyone go to Montreal last year for F1? I went with some friends in a TDi. It was a great time! We'll be going this year as well. But instead of the TDi it'll be an Evo VIII, 335i, possibly an FD, and a Esprit SE. Non of which are stock. If you are planning on heading out there this year it would be nice to caravan out there... especially with someone with a reliable car... or truck. That Lotus will be questionable... as would my RX-7. ;)

They do have limits - you have to in order to have an organized series. But, each team has the ability to run the chassis, engine and aero kit of their own design. Seeing things like that reverse exhaust system blows my mind. But somehow, they found an advantage to using it. But definitely not anywhere near as restrictive as NASCAR.

I don't really enjoy watching qualifying. I usually DVR the actual race (since they're often on so early & I loathe commercials) and watch it later that same day. I passively watch the pre-race show unless there's worthwhile topics being discussed. The standing starts are a blast. Check it out sometime. I posted the schedule earlier in this thread.

I can't believe Kubica fared as well as he did actually, he's lucky the rail didn't go through his torso.

Also, in terms of the forward exhaust, I'm pretty sure it's just to get more high speed air going under the undertray since the cars this year are relying more on ground effects than wings. It has the double effect of leaving the airflow around the wing alone and routing more under the car.

I saw the F1 race at Indy two years, including the year all the cars decided not to race, and it was absolutely incredible. The speed and the sound is honestly indescribable. The cars seem to defy physics around the corners. It's most apparent when they're following the safety car. You don't realize it on TV, but the safety car is an AMG Mercedes being driven at 100% by a professional racing driver, and the F1 cars following look like they're barely moving compared to when they're underway. It really is something you have to see to even "get."

Redbull will have some extra money to spend on the RB7 this season

Red Bull Racing may be using the same engines as Renault this season, however, they will be rebadged as Infinitis.

Red Bull claimed the double last season, powered by Renault and opted to extend their deal with the French carmaker.

However, this year the engines will no longer be called 'Renault'. Instead, they will be renamed 'Infinitis'.

According to the BBC, the deal is expected to boost Red Bull's coffers "by at least £7m", which equates to "about 4-5% of their total budget" as they will be receiving the engines for free.

The deal is intended to boost Infiniti - the premium brand of Nissan, which is part-owned by Renault - name on the global stage.

Although I do prefer to watch Moto GP / World Super Bike as I feel it has a little more action.

I don't know if you guys have been keeping up with testing at all. seems like Mclaren is trying to play catch up. really off the pace with the other cars. Torro Rosso is looking pretty good, the car is not the best with time but its always around the top.

4 days till the start of the 11' season. I'm pumped. any predictions. im thinking its going to be between red bull and ferrari. Button has won Australia the last two season. So im sure he will be in the mix. Go Vettel!

Amazing that Red Bull dominated qualifying without even using KERS. Too bad MW couldn't turn his great starting position into a podium finish in his home GP.

No one becomes a champion in racing without being aggressive, that's part of the profile. Look at any of them: Senna taking out Prost, Schuey's patented starting-line to the first corner sideways blocking, pushing Rubens to the wall last year, etc.

On another subject, how about the moveable rear wing option in the Australian race? How much is that really going to help passing this year?

Congrats to Vettel! He looked awesome all weekend. They didn't even use KERS. I wonder what the deal was. Did anyone see Webber pull in the pits right away?

I saw that but never caught the explanation. There must have been something wrong to not take a celebratory lap at your home GP.

there is not alot of talk about it on Autosport. but id find some comments. Some people are saying that there was some talk that there was something wrong with the car. much like last year when vettel retired from a "spark plug problem".

There is alot of talk this year about the RBR front wing. here we go again. time after time the front wings on the RB6-RB7 were tested. it passes every test. Newey has some how out smarted everyone. someone should have copied it by now.

Maybe he know how they test the wing and the process goes in to it. and has but the flex wing around that. what gets me is no down the grid can figured out how he did it. its fucking great.

03-29-2011, 10:51 PM
now there was a picture of Webber looking at the front of SV's RB7. which is kind of weird, you think he would know what the front end of their cars looks like. which makes me believe that they might be running slightly different wings. just like last year.

They are having reliability problems with the unit. some people are thinking that they are using a light weight unit just for the starting line.

Definitely. Was good hungover sunday entertainment, with a nice nap break in the middle.

Wish it would have been a little more of an actual pass by Button at the end there, but that's just me being greedy.

Not quite sure what I think of the rules regarding the use of the moveable wing, and the gap requirement, different rules regarding its use might have given Schumacher a fighting chance at the podium.

I found an Irish Pub down the street from the Shanghai hotel I'm staying at and they had F1 on a large screen in their outdoor seating area. Great venue and the weather was perfect, too bad the race was boring! Vetter wins by 12 seconds.....not even close.

I think my problem with it is that it just is not purpose-built. I'm not saying that would stop the circuit from giving a good race; Monaco goes in swings, I suppose.

I'm excited about Austin, Texas. Anyone who cares, though needs to chime in and send an email to the Austin City Council to show support for the F1 race! It's under threat right now.

It's a street course and it's supposed to be that way. To test the cars and drivers on a non purpose built course. Just like Monaco.

That doesn't make anyone's heart beat faster. In 3-4 years of Valencia, has there been one good race? It must be the least exciting circuit in the calendar.
Monaco is sometimes a procession, but there's a great race there at least every 3 years.

In other words, bring back the A1 Ring! Or Hockenheim with the run through the forest, where Jim Clark raced his last!
More circuits like Turkey, and less like Singapore. F1 has enough pressure to pussify everything from rules to design to engine limits; the drivers don't enjoy driving at Valencia, so why should we?

Also, I received a reply from a Austin City Councilman today!
I'll have to get it from my work email, but I'll post it up if anyone would like to read it. It talks about why he is voting FOR the race.

I'm really interested to see how the smaller teams finish out the year, especially Renault Lotus. this weekend they are installing the aerodynamics upgrade. i really think they are moving in the right direction. all the new teams are starting to plant their roots in F1. when it comes down to Virgin jumping on board with Mclaren for technical development. Or HRT developing their drivers and getting new sponsors.
