Vw Mk1 Sunroof Help@@$(^)!$^)

I have a 83 GTI and the sunroof sucks. Anyone know how to fix these buggers or know of a shop I can take it to to have them rip into it? Seems like the cables are screwed up. Right rear corner sags and leaks.

I think I could help you. I have to rebuild my Rabbits sunroof next week. It is alll I've been looking at lately.

My cables were toast when I got my 83 GTI. I just bought the cables off of ebay for $60 I think. It's a pretty straight forward fix, and it only took me about an hour I think. You just have to get the sunroof panel it self out (easier than it looks) and then take the tracks out, which is very simple too. I followed the procedure in the bentley to do it and it was spot on.

Thanks for all the great responses. I do have a Bently, I just dont have any time :-(

I may give Chad a call and run the GTI by to have him take a look.

I will have to see how the timing works out this weekend to dig into this one.

I have my GTI at SCI right now. Chad's taking a look. BTW, on the drive over from Plymouth the other AM to drop the car off with Chad I came flyin through the 94 tunnel. When I downshifted and stepped on it something in the exhaust busted. I think I blew a gasket between the header and the downpipe. Holy Sh%t it got LOUD!!! That tunnel shook from the note bouncing off the walls. I could hardly here when I got to SCI.

Was kind of fun!!! If I had earplugs, I would drive it like that all the time.:D
