the 2.ot is better than both the vr6 and the 1.8t. But it still doesnt say which is better in the war between the vr6 and the 1.8t! lol.

The 3.6L V6 will only be in the Passat and the special edition R36. It won\'t be available in the regular GTI, so in that respect, that war is over.

I always prefer factory turbo, as it means the engine is built for it. Doesn\'t cost a lot of money to up the boost that\'s already there, since most factory turbos are set at a pretty moderate setting (like 7psi). Exceptions would be the stretched-to-the-limit STI and Evo engines. Their turbos are maxed out and need to be upgraded to get any further power from them.

The 2.8T in the new 9-3 Aeros is rated 250hp/258tq, and is running a very modest 5-7psi. So what happens when you up the boost a bit? 300hp and 350tq! :)

As for \"the war,\" I personally never had anything against the vr6 engine. It\'s a solid powerplant with decent power delivery at most RPMs and the best exhaust note from any 6er I\'ve ever heard. My complaint stemmed from the vr6 nutswingers who always thought their engine was god\'s gift to cars, looking down their nose at the meager 1780cc 4 banger with a hairdryer on it. That\'s what bugged me and why I became such a 1.8T fanboi.

The 2.0T is a decent engine. I didn\'t think it was any \"better\" than the 1.8T. It feels like a chipped AWP to me, which is good, because that was in stock form. They\'re getting what, 230-250hp out of just a chip on the new 2.0Ts, which is pretty impressive.

I hate turbo lag...and even with very little lag I still hate that woosh feel as the boost builds.

I used to be a VR6 guy til death Ive had 3 gtis witht hem. But I got that 1.8t in my avant and it changed my whole perspective on it. Im more of a turbo guy now cuz it makes that fancy air noise  But I do still love the sound of the older VR6 in mk3\'s as I turn the key it just sounds soild. Know what Im sayign that chiggy chiggy roummm. Anyone have that recorded?

Wait, you hate the feeling of real power being made??? God I love the turbo rush. NAs feel so boring. I spent a couple weeks in Doug\'s GLI while Justine\'s car was in the shop, and it was decent (6 speed gearing blew on those cars IMO). But at the point I expected to be pushed in my seat, I got nothing. It was just different, and I really missed the feel. I think I\'m turbo4lyfe.

While I was out doing an italian tune-up on the Aero, for the first time in awhile I heard the diverter valve dump (stock setup plus I usually have the stereo blasting). I miss that sound. Time for a bov! The Aero doesn\'t have a MAF so I can run one without issue :D

Yes I love that industrial high pitched sound.

after driving Neils GTI in the Eurowerks fall drive, I\'ve decided I really am not a fan of how the power builds. I mean, it was fast, and fun, but I like to have all the power everywhere. Now, as you all know I do own a VR6, and it is not fast. I wouldn\'t classify myself as a VR6 fanboy, just a N/A freak :)

I would much rather swap an M50 in my BMW that drop a turbo on it. Even though it\'s painfully easy to turbo my engine (bulletproof internals + 8/1 compression + gobs of room under the hood)

ya, but having a turbocharged 6 cylinder is like a whole new world when you come from a 1.8T. although i WOULD like to have some NA super power.....and i might soon when my dad gets our 400hp vega done. yippeee!!!!

I\'ve driven a C5 corvette, which I\'m sure nobody here will say is slow or underpowered. And it was exactly the same as any other NA I\'ve driven. I just didn\'t feel like I was going all that fast. I\'m sure I was, but without the rush I just feel bored. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Honda and other Japanese engines are the worst. I can\'t stand engines that make absolutely no power til you rev the ever-loving shit out of them til they sound like they\'re going to die.
