Ok heres a run down on what happened to the Jetta:
Coming to school today , im full on oil yet my warning light and buzzer kept going off like crazy. I stopped at a stop sign and it stalled out about 3 times untill i reved the crap out of it, and from then till i got to school it was driving like it was either on two cylinders or stuck at half throttle. I got to school and about 30 yeards from my spot the engine died and it was smoking like i blew a head gasket.
Ok now whats going on with it:
My dad and I took the valve cover off the check the cam shaft and lifters, I still have oil pressure and i have pressure in the fuel lines. It cranks over but it doesnt want to actually start, but when it does it sounds like its running on like maybe one or two cylinders and it wont go above 800RPM. Im spittin out a mixture of oil and carbon and water out the exhaust and it reaks of an over flow of gas. I have spark and the distributer, cap, and rotor have spark soo my dad and I are completely at a loss. The thing is though when we fooled with the sensors and plugs it would turn over like nothing was wrong, but then it would stall right after it "started," then once that happend it would only turnover with help from the starter...thats it.
Anyone know whats going on? Please I need help...I need a car!!!

...Well... Um to put it bluntly, I have no compression...NO compression, NO freakin compression in any of the cylinders. Ive never seen that bafore in all the 7 years of being a mechanic. No compression what so ever, all four cylinders. Either I A) Bent all the valves or B) Bunt a hole in all four pistons......and its still in the school's parking lot. Soo uhhhh HELP

did you replace the head gasket when you were working on it? it sounds like you've blown the gasket.

We did, the gasket's good my dad said, but who knows, lets hope its something as simple as that. But I fear the worst, i mean it turns over but theres aboslutly nothing in terms of compression at all

theres no other reason you'd have water oil and gas in your exhaust.

I really hope its something as simple as that. Were towing the car back to the shop this afternoon via a pick-up truck...welcome to Connecticut lol, but we'll rip it apart and see the damage. But if it is the piston Im going after market with it so its not really a huge lose lose situation

16v? Throw the timing belt? Maybe it skipped a tooth and bent some of the valves?

Seriously man,
WHY WERE YOU DRIVING IF YOUR OIL LIGHT AND BUZZER ARE ON???
What engine and what year are your Jetta?
How do you know you have oil pressure? watching it squirt with the valve cover off?
The oil light and buzzer are set at something like 3psi which is NOT enough to protect an engine. I think your oil pump is going out, or the over-pressure valve broke so you're not getting more than a couple pounds of oil pressure. Chances are you destroyed your rings, bearings, cam, head, and maybe even your block and crank.

I was still driving cause i was sooo damn late to school and I had a final to take....I really wish now I didnt keep going, but hey i passed that final lol.
Its 1990 Jetta and it has an 8v, and the timing isnt off, but we checked the oil pressure when we took the valve cover off cause the lifters had pressure and when we tried to start it we could see oil flowing through the head.
The crank and cam is good, we didnt see any or hear any damage to those. The rings maybe in #1 cylinder because that one wasnt doin so good to begin with, but we didnt find that out untill we had the engine back together. The head he rebuilt so we know thats fine, and the block was fine too. It might be the pump, I didnt even think to look at it, and i didnt even consider the pressure valve.

Go buy a new engine, you trashed this one.
driving with no oil pressure is a bad thing, I hope you like doing engine swaps.
It doesn't have a significant amount of oil pressure, it only takes a couple pounds to see oil under the valve cover.
to prevent this in the future, you might want to get a real oil pressure gage, it'll tell you what the idiot light and buzzer don't. ie: you woulda known that your oil pump was dying about 6 months ago.

Well we got the car back....the engines seized. Now were ripping it apart to find the problem. The 16v and the 8v blocks are mostly the same except for an oil spray for the pistons in the 16, but they are the same. Hopefully we can bolt up the bottom end for my 16v to the top end of the 8v, cause the head is in good shape still after we rebuilt it. Has anyone else done an 8v top with a 16v bottom??? Because if it doesnt work...im screwed because i dont have the cash to spring for a new or used engine.
Oh and I do have an oil gauge in the car, a VDO gauge, and i didnt do shit for me when it all happened, BTW

The 8v head on the 16v bottom end will give you roughly 16:1 compression.
No good for pump gas, no good for most race gasses.
Too bad you're not in Minnesota, I could get you an 8v engine for el-cheapo.
So tell me, what did your VDO Oil pressure gage say when your oil light and buzzer started going off?
Flippin,
I wasn't being a dick, I was just stating facts. Did I say anything incorrect or offensive? Why do I need to lighten up?

8v blocks come really cheep in mn and any junk yard worth it's salt should have something in an early 90's vw laying around. you could also use a 2.0 x flow block from a mk3 golf/jetta. the gti and jetta trek/gt had forged crank and connecting rods in their 2.0.

Found the problem. It seems that the #4 rod wasnt getting any oil what so ever to it which in case welded the rod to the crank which made the piston hit the head and which also bent the other three rods and broke most of the piston rings which scratched up the block and seized the engine, and in that happening the crank couldnt move and as it tried cracked the case around it which cracked the block and bent some of the push rods and stripped a lobe on the cam...fu*k. But the head itself is in really good shape still, which is about the only thing thats STILL in good shape.

What do you mean it bent some of the push rods? This is a VW right? We have overhead cams, not pushrods.
Also, if it stripped a lobe on the cam, chances are that it warped the head and/or damaged the bearing surface inbetween the cam and the head.
Sorry to hear that you'll be doing an engine swap, don't worry though, the first time is always the hardest ;-)

Ohh sorry I didnt mean pushrods, I ment I bent the valves in #4 cylinder, but the head is good still. I have no clue how but the port on the #4 needs to be resurfaced but thats not a big deal.

In all honesty, you'll save yourself a lot of time and money by just finding a new 8v engine in your area and swapping that in.
Check the Vortex, there are always a bunch of cheap 8vs on there.

Yea, thats what I plan on doing. I was first going to get an engine from the parts yeard, but when i got there this morning he had already gotten rid of or crushed the 4 or 5 mk II VW's there so I was at a loss, but I know of a few poeple around who deal in engines so hopefully they have one just lying around for cheap. Ill definatly have to check Vortex, I didnt even think of that.
