As most of you know, my block cracked in my 84. It just happened that my buddy who owns boost factory, Chuck, had an obd1 mkIII sitting there. Well why not? And so it begins....

got the engine out :P I did get all the subframe and stuff off after I took these, probably going to get my rabbit over there tomorrow.

someone decided to sleep over, for a very long time. They even saved some pretzels just in case. And then they started to eat the wiring harness. ****! Should be alright, Chuck was workin the wiring harness over when I left for the evening today...

I can keep the tank, but everything else needs to be swapped out ;)

aw shiz.zz lets hope his car is a desl!

actually it ends up great that it\'s a diesel because I can use the normal fuel lines. They even come right up on the proper side for the xflow ...Here are some pics from todays progress....

the diesel motor mount is kinda giant and has alot of stuff we didnt need on it to hold the injection pump so we zoinked it off. and now it works :P
http://motionblurphoto.com/temp/forforums/xflowswap/enginein/IMG_2988small.jpg

we swapped out the drive flanges as I am too poor to go get scirocco ones. This works anyways...

http://motionblurphoto.com/temp/forforums/xflowswap/enginein/IMG_2989small.jpg

getting the best ready... we ended up taking off and putting on alot of stuff with it up here, worked out fuckin awesome.

http://motionblurphoto.com/temp/forforums/xflowswap/enginein/IMG_2990small.jpg

and final prep to get it bolted in...

http://motionblurphoto.com/temp/forforums/xflowswap/enginein/IMG_2991small.jpg

and we rock...

http://motionblurphoto.com/temp/forforums/xflowswap/enginein/IMG_2992small.jpg

http://motionblurphoto.com/temp/forforums/xflowswap/enginein/IMG_2993small.jpg

We should be able to get everything hooked back up to the motor again and throw the radiator back in tomorrow. Linkage needs to be reattached...basically the motor is just bolted in right now and that was it for today

got all the fuel out today... it sucks I filled up the tank before the engine went :( Got the cooling system all hooked up. Got the fuel pump today. Got all the lines hooked up but the pump isnt in yet. I need to get some different hose for the tank outlet. Should be running tomorrow, which is my friggin BIRTHDAY!!!! Happy birthday to me it will be if the car runs and I drive it home ;) Much thanks to SCI for helping me with a fuel pump today...

done! pics tomorrow ;) Its running pretty friggin good. Faster than I expected...I dont have the vss hooked up and I havent had any issues with that yet.... It\'s relearning, and probably going WTF? what is this **** fuel? I\'m sure there is still some diesel left in the tank even though I drained it. I filled it up w/ premium but it still smokes a bit. After this tank I should be golden! I got her bathed when I got home. She sure does look sharp. I forgot my camera at the shop

slept on it thoughts:

motor moves around a little, I have to see if all the mounts are tight. Not sure whats up there. Heater rocks my world now. I\'m guessing I didnt have enough coolant w/ the old motor. It was leaking out of the crack in the block. I really need to get different suspension. The stock struts w/ sport springs thing is a bit bouncy. Its a bit hard to find fifth, so I\'ll have to adjust that today. Engine seeks idle a bit. Obviously a vaacum leak I\'ll have to nail down. The more I drive it the faster it learns about being faster. It really fucking rips now. I drove it around about 60 miles last night....I love it http://bestsmileys.com/eek/2.gif

finally got the new cluster swapped in today. tach, lights, blinkers bright light switch, temp fuel speedo all are working. I havent hooked up the vss yet, im taking a break. The oil pressure warning system is in the cluster on an 81 which is what I got the cluster out of. The 84\'s like my chassis it\'s in a relay. So I had to pull a relay and ground out the signal into the cluster. I\'ll have to get a seperate gauge to read oil pressure. I think I\'ll look for a gti 3 cluster deally. I put a rear poly mount on the other day for the tranny. I picked up a techtonics front mount today as well. It\'s quite a bit beefier than the stock one. Im done for today....
